Question about Microsoft Xbox 360 Console
You need to clean the laser that acually reads the games. Therefore take the xbox apart and take the dvd drive out and take out the four screws. Take a Q tip and damp one end and lightly brush the laser eye and take the other end and dry it.Put everything back together and it should work. If it does not the you need to change the dvd drive.

You can take the motherboard card from your old dvd drive and place it into your new dvd drive only if its the same model and it has the same card because the dvd key for your 360 is on your old dvd card.
I did this on my 360 and it works 100%

Yes the lazer is faulty , it would be too expensive to repait yourself but you know microsoft GIVE A 3 YEAR WARRANTY i sent them 5 xboxes in 2 years, just give them a ring with your serial number on 0800 5871102 and they will tell you if it is in warranty, AND ARRANGE COLLECTION with UPS and you dont have to pay a thing, if it isnt covered then you could pick a second hand core system up for about £65 and put your hard drive on it and other bits. Lazers cost about £100 alone.

In some cases it is not the laser. A DVD drive will not read the disc unless it is spinning, and some of the DVD drives (several different used in the box) have dirty spindle motors. If the motor is dirty it won't spin enough to read and you have to take the motor apart to clean it. This is pretty easy to do, but would not suggest doing it unless you are out of warranty. Check Youtube.com for "cleaning Xbox 360 DVD motor" for a step by step video.

You need to flash the drive with the old drive's key; otherwise the your xbox motherboard will not allow that drive to access the gameplay engine and will not allow you to play games.
