How do I fix the fan in my Acer aspire z5700

replace the fan or just try blowing the side of your laptop were the fan is and try and blow out any dirt,if this does not work trying using a hoover to suck out the dirt,if the fan still does not run then replace it.and also check to make sure your processer is not getting to hot.mind you it will if your fan is not running.

Random shutdowns

It is either running hot or you have a virus or infection.

Sounds like it might be running hot. If it is running hot it shuts off to keep from damaging the motherboard.

If it is running hot it will boot up to windows and let you do things as long as it is cool, but when it gets hot it will shut off and not boot up again until it cools off. That's a sign that it is running hot.

Three things that will cause it to run hot.
1) Dust. Dust in the vents, inside the computer, clogging the fans and dust around the cpu and heatsink.
2) A fan that has stopped working.
3) The Thermal Paste around the CPU and Heatsink has dried up or is too thin to keep the unit cool.

To fix either of the three would require taking the laptop apart. However you could buy a can of compressed air and blow out the vents, but this just pushes the dust inside the computer, but it might work.

If it is not running hot then you have a virus or infection that is shutting it down. Download and install MalwareBytes and run a Quick Scan.
Go to and in the search box type:"Download cnet Malwarebytes" (without the quotes). Download andinstall malwarebytes from the sites download.cnet/malwarebytes. When the site opens up click on the Green Download button on the left. Do not click the Red Download button, that's junk. When it finishes installing the Gui Interface will open up with an offer to Accept a Trial Version or Decline. CLICK DECLINE you want the totally free version. Run a QUICK SCAN. As it scans, if it finds infections the number will be in red. When it finishes scanning, click SHOW RESULTS. A notepad text document will open up showing you the results. You can close the text document and go back to the Gui Interface where you will click REMOVE SELECTED RESULTS. The objects will already be selected for you. When it finishes removing the objects click ok and it will sometimes reboot your machine.

Computer keeps shuting down

Shuts down when? Right after you boot it up? Or does it run a while then shut down?
If it shuts down after it has run for a while then the computer is probably running hot. Either the CPU Fan is not working or the Thermal Paste has dried up or is too thin to keep the CPU Cool. To prove it is running hot, let the computer sit for a while then boot it up. Once it boots up use it until it shuts down and immediately try to boot it up. If it does not boot up that means it's running hot. But if you let it cool off then try booting up you will be successful.

My gateway is making a rattling sound at start up which last about 15 minutes, them seems to run quite after that.....any ideas ?

It is most likely a fan that is making the noise. It's possible that one of the fans is going bad and needs to be replaced. But sometimes fans will make noise if there is a lot of dust inside the case. You could try opening the case and using one of those compressed air cans to carefully blow the dust out. You can get them for a few dollars at any office supply store.
If you're comfortable opening up the case and replacing a fan, it's not too hard to do once you figure out which fan is making the noise. If you're not comfortable doing it yourself, take it in to a shop and get them to do it for you. It shouldn't cost much.
Right now, it sounds like maybe the fan is having trouble getting started and then when it gets quiet, it's either because the fan settles down and starts running or maybe because it just stops working after trying for a few minutes. Either way, I'd get it taken care of because you don't want it getting too hot inside the case.

After running for a long period of time, my computer starts making a clicking sound. Then it goes to "blue" screen. I was told to make sure my fan was running when the computer is started. I have noticed...

First thing replace your fan. if your computer shuts of, then the mother board has a fail safe when your cpu gets too hot. if that doesnt stop the clicking noise then its your hard drive, get a new one pretty soon or back up all your data.

Fans a very important in a pc, heat will destroy a computer this is why servers are placed in a controlled environment.

Turns itself off & gets hot -don't think fan is kicking on

Since you do not hear the fan anymore I would start by opening up the case and seeing if power is going to the fan and make sure any connectors for it have not come loose. If the connectors are still hooked up chances are the fan is shot and needs to be replaced.

If you are not familiar with working around electronics and parts under power I would highly suggest you have some one who is familiar with this do it.

Tower fan runs fast without stopping

either your computer is running too hot (clean it out physically, or clean out viruses) OR the fan is failing, and it sounds louder and faster cause the bad fan bearings are making that noise.

Hello, I have an HP Pavilion Slimline windows Vista and the fan won't stop running. Is this okay? It is not hot where the pc is sitting so I don't know if it's stuck or whats going on with it Any...

Good news! You don't want the fan to stop running. There are 2 in there most likely- one for the power supply and one for the CPU. Both run continuously to keep the innards at a safe operating temperature. If you want to keep an eye on the temperatures, I use SpeedFan and it'll keep a temperature in the lower right for you to watch. The latest version is 4.37 and still FREE!!
Thanks for using and please rate this tip accordingly.
