Question about Pioneer Premier DEH-P580MP CD Player
I have a pioneer DEH-P580mp car stero with the supplied cable for an IPOD. I ahve had a second generation IPOD NANO connected to it for the past 2 years. I just received a new NANO, (third generation software version 1.0.3). The music plays fine but when connected to the stero a message comes up that says that charging the unbit is not supported. The IPOD goes dead after several hours of playing. The music pplays fine, it just doesn't charge. is there some kind of adaptar I need. The older IPOD worked and charged fine.

If you are referring to the presets tuner station settings being deleted when powered off and or the clock resetting its time, then you have to verify that the Pioneer DEH-P580MP is wired as follows:
Black - chassis/body ground/GND
Yellow - always on/constant B+12 such as the + terminal of the battery;
Red - switched on B+12 such as the ACC of the IGN switch.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.
Good luck and kind regards.
Thank you for using FixYa.

SOURCE: IPOD functions
this works on some other pioneer head units i encountered it may work on yours.
Shut it off and hold the function button until the options appear then you can scroll through and change a bunch of settings including the aux input

there is a short somewhere. check your speaker wire on the stereo to make sure none of them are shorted. also, check the speakers to make sure none of the speakers themselves are short (shorted voice coil). disconnect one speaker at-a-time to find the shorted speaker.

It appears as though you are attempting to charge the ipod with a cable that is not compatible. Some newer ipods cannot be used with older chargers and adapters for cars. Apple does this to maximize their profitability and in my opinion rip off consumers.
My daughters new ipod will work on her old FM adapter in my car but it says it does not support it on the ipod itself. It will transmit through the wire, but will not simultaneously charge it as the older ipod did both.
It is similar to cell phones and batteries. If you own the original razor and upgrade to the next generation razor, the usb connectors are different (hence the chargers will not work) and the battery connections are different so you cannot interchange batteries between the two. Even though you would think Ipods are Ipods and everything should be interchangeable, they are unfortunately not.
I hope this helps and good luck!
