Question about Toshiba 50H81 50" Rear Projection Television
MyT.V. has a picture which was always properly colored. Recently, seemingly overnight, the color is primarily purple and green uniformlyover the entire screen with a double view of people and words on screen
What is the problem?
and i dont know what degaussing is
When I'm in convergence mode the red cross seems to reach maximum movement and still doesn't quite allign with the blue and green. This causes color separation in the top right and bottom left of the screen.
Your set has a problem with its convergence circuitry. In many cases this can be simply failure of solder connections to the output integrated circuits due to the heat they generate, and resoldering them fixes the trouble. This is a repair you might be able to try for yourself if you have experience with electronic soldering. Or there might be component failure which would require the equipment to isolate and replace the bad parts, which is a repair level best left to professionals. In some cases where the set has digital convergence, the failure might be in the computer control portion. This means the repair might range from only a very few dollars in parts to quite a lot of dollars, plus whatever labor rate the servicer charges. If you aren't looking for an excuse to replace the set, getting an estimate on a professional repair would be the best suggestion.
Degaussing is deliberately applying a magnetic field to the face of a picture tube. This is done to neutralize the effect of other magnetic fields that can cause color distortion. Degaussing isn't done in projection sets because they have separate tubes for each color.

Degaussing means to demagnify. Not applicable with a projection tv. You have a severe convergence problem. Either a component failure, a speaker or other powerful magnet in very close proximity or someone figured out how to adjust (or misadjust) it.
