Question about Canon PowerShot SX20 IS Digital Camera

Canon PowerShot SX20 IS Digital Camera freezes when importing pictures

My camera freezes and fails to import pictures several times before I am finally able to get my media imported. I actually ended up having to use Adobe Photoshop Elements to get it done. My Cannon software isn't acknowledging the camera and for that fact my computer doesn't even acknowledge it when I plug the camera in. Help?

Try downloading the current software for you model from the Canon site. You could try inserting the memory card into the card reader on your computer and if you get the same result then it would appear to be a software problem that you use to download. Sometime conflicts appear.

Use a card reader to download to a folder you create on your desktop. From there, you can import to iphoto.

Flawlessly Join and Output SD900 MTS Videos to MKV files for Watching on WDTV...

Not Export Original Format-Merge MTS and Export MKV without Conversion for Playing on WDTV
Watch MKV Videos on WDTV-Join MTS to MKV without Transcoding in Seconds and Keep the Highest Quality

I enjoy shooting videos with my Panasonic HDC-SD900 for its high definition. But I encountered a problem last Sunday when I needed to join several videos to one and play it on my WDTV Live Hub media player. I tried several ways and finally found that The 1.7th Edition of Final Mate is my best choice. One of its new features is that it can import MTS files and Export Lossless MKV Instead of Original Format. Following I will share my experience of joining MTS files and lossless output MKV.

How to Join MTS to MKV without Transcoding and Watch MKV Videos on WDTV with Keep the Highest Quality
1.Import Videos to Aunsoft Final Mate.

Turn on your camcorder and connect it to computer via USB. The 1.7th Edition of Final Mate will launch automatically. You will see video files from different data storages of your camcorder. Select the drive and click "Next". Then follow the wizard to complete the import. After that you will see the following window, in which all the files are checked, uncheck the "Check all" box and select the ones you'd like for importing, then click "Start" to import your camcorder files.

2. Create a Movie For Lossless Join and Output.

Click the drop-down button of "Create a New Movie" icon and choose "For lossless output" to create a blank movie. Then drag and drop the AVCHD MTS videos from Camcorder Tab to the blank movie to Flawlessly Join MTS to MKV with no Conversion.

3.Export MKV Files for Watching on WDTV Live Hub.

Click the icon on the right side of the new movie and choose "MKV format". Import Error 0x80048003 on DVD-VR with Pegasys and TMPGEnc Products

Typically a DVD-VR media format is in ISO9660, UDF v1.02 with an import label of DVD-RECORDER and the preferred Media format is that of DVD+RW that can be written on without finalizing a erased several hundred times before it fails.

If you are trying to import a DVD-VR created on a DVD Recorder into your PC for editing and re-encoding you might get this error with either the excellent TMPGEnc Authoring Works v4.0; TMPGEnc v4.0 Xpress or the TMPGEnc MPEG Editor v2.0

2e763d1.jpg

e33d879.jpg

6b04e87.jpg

When using the preferred media format of DVD+RW It might be able to find the VIDEO_TS folder and software like VSO Inspector OR Nero ROM's Info Tool may also indicate that the DVD-VR has track information on it as shown below

f20b902.jpg

Possible Faults :

 • Corrupt VOB or VOB's this is the most common fault.
 • The DVD+RW reads in the DVD recorder as BLANK means that it has not authored the media correctly.
 • Faulty DVD+RW media that can only be used a finite number of times, you need to bin it and buy new media and try to record the Video again for re-import.
 • The AUDIO_TS folder is missing.
Possible Solutions:

Create an ISO file using Lightning's Excellent ImageBurn then import the DVD-VR from a mounted drive you can either use Slysoft's Virtual CloneDrive OR Alcohol 52% FE to do this make sure that you read at about X2.4 or slower and check the ignore read errors shown in red in the Settings Menu

ae228c5.jpg

Use DVD Shrink great user guide by Mr. Bass there also to try to import as much of the media as possible it might fail however but you will find out where the DVD-VR fails on the import it will also save the files that it has imported correctly for you which is a bonus and save them in a folder called DVD_VR or whatever the DVD Recorder labels the media as.

fb7fbe8.jpg

In this case DVD Shrink throws an I/O read error 19 seconds before the end of the track or 65% good files fails on 66%

2303c7f.gif

This case shows a DVD-VR that has 10 good files however the last three VOB's of the DVD-VR format are unreadable hence the 0x80058003 error on DVD-VR import.

If you use Total Commander you can copy the 7 good files to the Harddrive and use evilmaster's excellent VOBMerge v2.51 remixed to join VTS_01_1 to VTS_01_2 together as the IFO files are still intact this will work and you will be able to import the resultant file for editing.

1a84db5.jpg

This is not ideal however you will still be able to retrieve about 50% of the video data from the corrupt DVD-VR from the first 2 complete Video Object Blocks (VOBs)

27d2633.jpg

Even if your VOB's are not consecutive like in this example you can still join them and import then using the Add File Option or add the individual VOB's as long as the video that you want to edit is on the good VOB then you are OK.

e755b81.jpg

Each one contains typically 30 mins of SLP DVD-VR video (MPEG-2 @ 720 x 576 4,380kbps 25fps) you may also need to change the file extension of merged.vob to merged.mpg to avoid any import errors although in my experience VOBs will import correctly in the latest versions of the software despite the warning shown below.

Cannot import pictures - error says cannot find source

I find connecting to the camera with a computer to be occasionally problematic. I STRONGLY suggest taking the SD card out and reading it directly with the computer.
