Question about Nikon Digital Cameras

4 Answers

My Nikon Coolpix 8800 works fine until you take a picture, then it comes up with System Error 2 and locks up. Switching Off and On again clears it, but I have no manual or CD as I bought it Second hand, So as yet I have not been able to connect it to my computer and down load images. Are these two things related? Paul Cantley

Temporary solution from here:

  1. Rotate the control dial on the top of the camera to the SET UP position.
  2. Cycle through the menu options down to where you see "reset camera"
  3. It will erase all your settings,
  4. Select "yes"
hope this helps.

You need to reprogram it, because the system error 2 can only be fixed by reprogram it,, but a usb hud or usb wire to connect it from computer, then "right click", and clik "reformat"

Sir, if your going to transfer pictures on your computer you should use USB cable that would fit on your camera and your computer. its not that hard to find it on some eletronic or camera shop. Once you have it you can transfer it without any problem.

http://www.starbatteries.com/nico88dicaow.html
heres the manual for your camera. just click the download and be sure you have pdf reader to be able to read this on your computer.

if your camera wasnt able to read on your computer after inserting the USB then you should the download the driver below this message and install it on your computer. it should be working after you install it. hope that helps

Having a "System Error" message display on the camera's LCD display generally indicates a problem where the camera will need to come to Nikon for repair. A System Error is a general error which can be caused by many things: lens problem, CF Card problem, general camera failure, etc. Before sending the camera in, check these:

  1. Use the memory card that originally came with the camera (or a Nikon approved card)
  2. Remove and replace the battery
If the error is still displayed, contact Nikon's Service Department (below). If the above tips do not help the camera must be sent to Nikon Service, there are no user serviceable parts on Nikon Coolpix cameras.
We apologize for the inconvenience and will do everything we can to repair your Nikon camera as quickly as possible.

When I shot each photo, the "system error 2" appears and I have to turn off the camara,

System Error 2 on Nikon Coolpix 8800 is usually after blow, even the small one, when you or somebody kick the camera and yes, FULL RESET on Set Up mode is just one solution. It's camera's error not the card.

I have a nikon coolpix 8800. i have a 6gb card installed. I have the latest firmware. I recently took over 1000 pictures on a trip without downloading any of the photos. Once the picture count got over...

Try this...go into the menu and try to find an entry for "reset" to get back to factory default settings. Then, assuming you've safely downloaded any pics from the card, insert it into the camera, go into the menu and find "format"....follow the on-screen instructions to erase and optimize the card. Let me know how this works for you.

Check the memory card. It's probably damaged. If not it should be a software error, and you have to take it to the dealer where you purchased it from

Memory card

Hi Janet, do this:
To fix this, remove the SD card from your camera. Look on the side and you will find a little switch. One end of the switch says locked the other end says unlocked. Move the switch from locked to unlocked. Replace it in your camera and turn it back on.

Thanks for coming to FixYa and fee free to rate my solution.
