Question about JVC XV-S500 DVD Player

3 Answers

HELLO When I press the power button it flashes "HELLO" on the display once briefly then turns off. It will not open when the open button is pressed. I have tried to unplug it and let sit overnight then plug in again and it did the same thing. I tried to reset it by holding the stop and play buttons in while plugging it in to get into the test mode then hit the pause button which is supposed to reset it and it did go into the test mode but it did not fix the problem.

First thing, you need to check why it is not opening. do you hear sounds when you push the open button. if you do, there is a broken rubber band. open the cover of the device, take the dvd playing section, (make sure when you unplug wire to know exactly where they go) once you change the rubber band, try to play and see if not, reset the machine. good luck

My bauhn TV screen stopped working. DVD plays sound but no picture. Can the TV be reset or rebooted

You can try unplugging the units--no picture often means the DVD has a dirty or failed optical unit.

Will not play DVD from other regions. Specifically, plays a few but mostly does not play DVD from Australian region. I resdie in Serbia. thansk for any advice or work arounds on this issue. We inherited...

Your dvd is locked to a region code so will only play dvd's for region it was made for.
good news is that you can unlock most dvd players to be region free.

First of all set the command mode of the recorder to "DVD1"
from the menu and from the remote.
After that

1. Press DVD on the remote control
2. Hold MAGIC button (or SET Button) until the led flashes twice.
3. Press 0, 5, 3 and 3 and the led flashes twice.
4. After that the URC can manage the recorder...check it
If not, then use the code search (have a look in the manual of the remote control).
When the rc works, then step over to

1. Hold MAGIC button until the LED blinks twice
2. Now type "994" (then LED blinks again)
3. Press the MAGIC button (shortly)
4. Now type 001891
5. LED blinks twice
6. Repeat steps 1-5 and enter instead of step 4 the codes 002552,000953,002214,000795
7. Put the player on standby (and be sure that there is no DVD inside)
8. Press 1,2,3,4,5 (pause briefly between each button and make sure LED of remote flashes) then the display shows "TIMER OK" and the DVD-Player goes on
9. Press 1,2,3,4,5 (pause briefly between each button and make sure LED of remote flashes) then the display shows "TIMER OK" and the DVD-Player goes off
10. Then it is done. Your DVD-Player/Recorder is Codefree

Panasonic DMR-EZ48V stopped working properly. It seems to have frozen up, but resetting it doesn't get it working again. When I reset by pushing the power button for 10 seconds, it flashes HELLO 15...

My unit is doing exactly the same thing. I've tried reloading the firmware, but it never appears to enter the First Time Setup. To load the CD I had to remove the cover, (disconnect the power) and manually eject the DVD tray. With the cover off, look on the side of the DVD. There is a square hole, directly above the screw that attaches the DVD to the chassis. Insert a stiff rod and push. The DVD tray will open. This is how I loaded the firmware CD. This all started after I rescanned the tuner and then did a manual channel edit. While trying to edit the channels, the unit stopped tuning and ended up in its current state.

I need to change the region code of a LG DV7821P..does anyone know the code to do it?

Hello Cate_Speak,

I found this online as a possible solution, I'm not sure if it will work, but it's worth a try:

Enable multi-region feature on LG 7821W & DV7821P
  1. Turn on the player using the remote.
  2. Press the open button.
  3. Press the Pause button on your Remote Control,
  4. enter 314159. The TV display should now display the current region.
  5. Press the 0 button on your Remote for Region free, 1 for Region 1, 2 for Region 2 etc.
  6. Press the Pause button on your remote control
  7. Power off your player and wait a few seconds
  8. Power on your player

Curtis region error

This region code solution as per

Power up the player and open the tray. With the tray open, hit the setup button and then 0000 and then the "Up" button.
On the Setup menu, go to Version and hit enter. Go to region code and change the number to 0 for region free and hit setup again to save.
Power up the player and open the tray.
Press the SETUP button. The setup menu appears.
Press ZERO on the remote control four times - 0000
Press the CHAPTER FORWARD button - the one on the bottom right of the remote control unit that looks like a double arrow with a bar.
A new menu item appears, "Version". There is a REGION option you can select, and this can be set to zero "0" for all regions. Once you see its set to region 0, press SETUP to exit, close the tray and power off. When you power up again, its region free. RCE disks work fine in this unit.
To recap - open the tray, press setup, press 0-0-0-0, press Chapter Forward, select Version, choose 0 for region free, press setup again.
1) Turn on the System
2) Open the tray
3) Press "setup" button
4) Press four times the number "8": 8888
5) Press the "Next Chapter" button (>>|)
6) Appear a menu called "Setup Factory"
7) Select with the cursor movement key "Region All"
8) Press "setup" button to save de changes.
