  • Thomas Dec 16, 2008

  • Thomas Dec 16, 2008

dont have either one and when i did mt roommates i did have either one either

  • Thomas Dec 16, 2008

i dont know if it makes any difference or not but im using a laptop and i dont think it ever came with the other partition

  • Thomas Dec 16, 2008

the reason i want to restore my computer is because i cant install or uninstall anything on the hard drive. when i go into the programs and features and try to delete a program it tells me hp installer uninstaller has stopped working and then continues to close down. that is why i thought maybe restoring the laptop back to factory settings it would fix the problem, you understand now?

  • Thomas Dec 16, 2008

it is a toshiba laptop but the message said hp and i am using a hp printer but i dont know why that would make any difference.

  • Thomas Dec 16, 2008

i am only getting that message when i try to remove the applications for my printer. im trying to delete the program so i can install it back on so it will work right.so i guess in a way it has to do with my printer programs

  • Thomas Dec 16, 2008

In the start menu... there should be a choice in that menu for restoring the system.

ok fair enough... it appears to be removed now that you have rated it as such... be that as it may have you found the factory reset thing yet... if not i'll look further into it

mine doesn't show (i have a compaq) but i may have deleted it anyways. .. go to the start menu... my computer... how many drives do you see there ?

  • Roberta Smith
    Roberta Smith Dec 16, 2008

ok... it appears your restore partition is not there.... so that leaves you with two choices... do you have the restore disks.... or a totally new operating system to install ?

  • Roberta Smith
    Roberta Smith Dec 16, 2008

but chances were he has the restore partion... it's usually drive d tho it's on the same hard drive as c:... if you did in fact delete the partition you may be able to restore it using system restore then go from there

and deleting it is supposed to be hard to do... but i managed to do it by mistake... and i work on computers lol

ok this sounds familiar so give me a bit to think about it. one thing i have noticed tho... the catagory is toshiba and you mention hp... what computer do you actually have there ?

i'm not sure that toshiba and hp play nice together but that shouldn't matter with the printer... just curious tho... were you trying to remove the printer ... i'm thinking that a standalone program to help you remove some programs may help you out... just have to find one now.... going to do some research one the toshiba site when i get a moment as well... try to remember i'm a voluteer i don't get paid for this

ok a couple choices then... you can reinstall the program on top of the one that is there.... then uninstall it and install it again... or you can use another program to remove it... i recommend ccleaner... just google that name. it is good for removing junk files and cleaning up your registry but it also has an add/remove tool. be that as it may if you can't remove it with that ... reinstall the program and then uninstall it... then reinstall... what model number is the printer and also what operating system are you using ?

ok you can go here and select your operating system to get the latest software for the printer

    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softw...»

I'd suggest you download it as the copy you have may be corrupted or the latest software may take care of some bugs that it has.

How to reset to factory settings like the day it came out of the factory?

Sometimes laptops are supplied with CD/DVD discs which perform this task when inserted in the CD/DVDROM drive and rebooted. If you don't have these then the closest you can get to a full factory system reset is by using the Windows System Restore feature. When you run this obviously choose the earliest system restore point. The third way will require you to obtain a windows operating system disk for your licensed OS, plus you will have to download the motherboard drivers from the laptop manufacturer website, installing these after running the OS disk from boot. Good Luck.

Factory restore

On a laptop there is no factory setting reset option (unless you mean bios reset ). To get the laptop back to the initial 'as new' condition you need to re-install the system using the recovery disk on startup. Put recovery cd 1 inside laptop cd drive and restart the computer. Follow instructions for complete restore.
If you do complete restore you can lose all your data.
