Question about SimpleTech 160GB USB 2.0 / FireWire External Open Box (STIU2F36160OBB1) Hard Drive
Hello, it's been like one year since I buy an external hard-drive from SimpleTech.
First week, he was running perfectly. But then, I opened my laptop and the "Installing new material" prompt appeared and says that the new material could not be install due to missing drivers. Use windows auto-search and didn't find anything. I than decide to see SimpleTech Compagnie website looking for drivers. They don't distribute drivers for theirs External Hard Drives. So I e-mailed customer support, and never got replied.
Please help me, I let down for like a 8 months and than I e-mail them again. I still have hope that I can get it to work.
I've tried it on different computer and settups. Both on my desktop and laptop, same results.
My laptop is running Vista and my Desktop XP. Hum... Both less than 3 years old. Up to date on upgrades.
And yes I know I should open my case and test the drive by itself, but since I don't have neither a spare external HDD box nor a sata connection i would like to have other solution. By the way, I do know that there is PCI cards that have sata conection but I dont want to invest in that since it's not sure to solve my problem.

I have an external hard drive. One day it vanished and my computer couldn't find it. So I had to take the hard drive out of its case and switch it to slave. It is pretty simple.
If you don't know how to do it. All you do is take your hard drive and the side where all the wires plug into there should be a section with 4 metal prongs with a plastic piece on one of them. Put the plastic cover on the appropriate prong. There will be a diagram on your hard drive of what is master and slave. I know explaining this is kind of confussing so here is a link that might give you a better idea.
