My tecumseh is doing the same thing. I got new fuel ,spark plug, carburetor cleaner. It runs for a few seconds after prime it and shuts down. If you resolve your problem, let me know how you fixed it.

I have the same problem, it starts up and after a few seconds it start stuttering
and eventually stops running. The exhaust seems fat as well. I believe it is just
some adjustment on the carb, but I hav not figured it out yet.

In regards to your solution on the snowblower not running, does the Craftsman model # 536-88521 have a air breather. If so, where can it be found.

First take the carb off of the engine and then remove the bowl, carefully take the float off paying special attention to the needle and how it is attached to the float. Next, lightly blow air into the fuel inlet while holding your finger over the spot where the needle goes in. Use a bread tie with the paper scraped off. Stick the wire through the pick up tube at the bottom of the carb. Find any other holes and probe those holes with the wire. Then thoroughly wash the entire carb with carb cleaner then blow the whole carb off. Then put the float and needle back in making sure that when putting the bowl back on that it seats tightly all the way around the rubber gasket. Also, just before you put the bowl on turn the carb upside down to see if the float is sitting level. If it is put the bowl on, If not then the spot where the needle sits on the float has to be bent one way or the other just a little until the float sits level. After the bowl is put in place, the nut that holds the bowl on the threaded area should have two possibly three holes plus the hole down the center, probe all holes with the wire. put everything back on the motor and try again. If it still won't run then you will need a carb kit.

Craftsman Kohler 26 hp starts and runs for 10 seconds with starting fluid sprayed in the carbureator then stops. How do I keep it running

first you need to see if you have fuel going to the carb then you need to see if it is going threw the carb there is a solenoid on the bottom of the carb that shuts fuel off to the jet if you have no power to the solenoid that will keep it from running also dirty old fuel sitting in the carb will cause the carb rto stick closed so if you have power to it remove it and see if it is opening

Most common problem with snowblowers is clogged carb. Remove spark plug and put a tea spoon full of gas in the plug hole and try to start. If it starts for a sec that is your problem. To get a manual go to you will need the model number to find the correct manual. Model number should start with 917.XXXXXXX.

I will try again here.
1 wire link from the top hole in the governor arm to the throttle on the carb. There should also be a wire link with a spring that goes from the Governor arm to the speed control handle.

Lawn tractor only runs when i spray engine starter in carb, then it stops

Bypass the filter. If it runs with the gas tank hooked strait to the carb., you'll know you've a clogged fuel filter. If this doesn't work, try cleaning the carb. It's not that complicated and doesn't have that many parts.
