Dell 940 all in one - blue smudges on print

Please help me. I have had the black cartridge re-filled .I have fitted it back and now on printing in colour there are blue smudges all on the print. If you print in just black and switch the colour off its perfectly ok. Any ideas !!!!!

How do you clean the copper parts of the cartridge

Turn the printer on and then fill the paper tray with paper.

If this is an HP printer, press the "Setup" key until "Tools" is shown on the control panel display screen. Follow equivalent steps for other printers by reading the user manual.

Press "OK." If your printouts continue to be faint, show white line streaks or smudges, go to the next step to clean the contacts on the print cartridge.

Open the print cartridge access door. Wait until the print cartridge moves all the way to the right side and completely stops.

Remove the power cord from the electrical outlet.

Press down on the top of the cartridge and lift it up toward you holding it by its sides. Avoid touching the copper area when you lift it out of its slot. Sit it down on a flat surface, such as a table.

Wet a lint-free cloth with water and squeeze out any excess.

Pick up the cartridge by its sides and avoid touching the copper area.

Gently wipe the copper contacts of the print cartridge with the dampened, lint-free cloth. Be careful not to wipe the copper nozzle part on the bottom of the copper cartridge.

Let the print cartridge dry for 10 minutes and then plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet.

Reinstall the print cartridge. If your printouts continue to be faint, show white line streaks or smudges, go to the next step to clean the nozzle area (copper bottom part of the print cartridge.).

Repeat steps 4 through 7 and then gently wipe the nozzle area with a clean, dampened lint-free cloth.

Let the print cartridge dry for 10 minutes and then plug in the power cord back into the electrical outlet.

Reinstall the print cartridge. If the ink is faint, or streaks or lines show on your printed pages, the old print cartridge may be defective and cannot be cleaned. Replace the old print cartridge with a new one.

I accidentally filled a 121 black cartridge with blue color yesterday. I have tried to remove the blue color so that to fill a black one but it has failed and when I print, it only print the blue color.I...

Did you remove all the blue ink from the cartridge? It is possible that there is still a small amount left. Just keep on printing until the blue ink runs out and the black ink will replace it.

Normally this is caused by the drum cartridge that fits under the toner. Replacing this drum cartridge will clear up the black marks on your print. Use this Dell Part# : A0373010 to order. After replacing the drum cartridge counter will have to be reset, Use the following steps.
1. Open the front door.
2. Press and hold the cancel button (x button) until all the lights flash in order.
3. Then close the front cover.
This will reset the drum counter.

When printing on ML4550B, there is a ~1cm intermittent black patches vertically on the right side of the printed page.

This is possibly toner on the paper feed rollers. If you happend to use refurbished cartridges they are often over filled to claim more pages for your buck. But they fail to say expect smudges down the printed page.
use a cloth and some metho to clean the paper path

Hmm... This sounds like it is a toner problem. If your roller is getting too much toner then it just globs it onto the paper even though the drum is not asking for it. Are you using a new toner cartridge or a re-filled one? Is it from Brother or a 3rd party? I suggest you remove the toner cartridge and check inside the printer. Clean any spilled toner. Check the toner cartridge for leaks .. give it a good shake and see if it is leaking. If you have another toner cartridge, you can replace it to test. You may need to pint a few pages to see a change. Another test could be to print a few (2-5) "BLANK" pages. The printer should not be depositing any toner. If no smudge or the smudge stays the same, then the toner cartridge is the likely problem. If the smudge is there, but gets smaller, then clean your printer.

Good luck!
