Question about Samsung SyncMaster 203B LCD Monitor

Syncmaster 203B LCD not working with Vista 64

Im trying to use this monitor on my new computer, but when I start up my computer nothing shows up...

I have the monitor on, it acts like its on but it doesnt display anything but a black screen (what would display if I had just turned on the monitor without turning on the computer). The monitor is plugged into the computer, when I unplug it from the computer it gives me a message on the monitor saying "check signal cable"... So Im assuming its on correctly, the computer is turned on correctly, but the monitor just doesnt display anything from the computer. I dont have another monitor from which to get on and change any settings on my new computer, so im using my old computer to try to figure out what to do. Ive also tried starting in safe mode (F8 when the computer starts up) and it does the same thing, acts as if the computer isnt on.

Thanks.

Alright Ill try that, but one thing I didnt mention is that my new computer is from a friend, and he has never had problems with the monitor not displaying before (even yesterday, it worked fine with his monitor)

So when it comes down to it, my old computer works with my current monitor and my new computer works with other monitors, they just dont work together...

Try putting the graphics card from your old computer into your new computer. That is where I would start.

I would first recommend reseting the bios, if the monitor still is black then it may be a problem with the graphics card

The only other thing I can think of is there an external graphics card as well as an built in one? If so when windows loads try plugging the monitor into another port, it may be that he has removed the graphics card and left the original one for yourself. If this is the case then windows may be looking for a moniter in a pci port and not looking at the motherboard port, this can easily be changed in the bios. Good luck!

I just got a used syncmaster 203b monitor. I hooked it up and all I get is a black screen. I downloaded Driver whiz and hooked it up again. Still a black screen. Still get a black screen the blue light is...

Make sure that your computer unit is working. Sometimes we suspect that it is a monitor problem but usually, it is a frozen CPU set.

When you turn on the monitor, it should light the blue led and after a while, when it does not receive signal from the CPU, it will turn orange. If that is the case, the monitor is functioning well.

So what could be the problem?

Make sure that you hooked the monitor to the right VGA port. If you have an internal VGA port (built in with the motherboard) and you also have an external Video Card, you should hook it to the external VGA port and not the internal one since it is overridden by default.

Do you hear the "short beep" sound when you boot your PC? That signals a good video system. If you don't hear that beep sound (provided your PC's speakers are okay), you should open your CPU case and try to remove your memory modules (RAM). Clean the pins with an eraser and put it on.

Now, your computer should work fine and so with your monitor.

Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, blown fuses, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed SAMSUNG monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums

Since you have tried another monitor with your computer, then we can only assume that your LCD monitor had gone bad.
If the light is green but you can't see anything on the screen, then most likely the backlight has gone bad. Unless you want to take the monitor apart, I would suggest buying a new monitor.

I want to open the case of Samsung Syncmaster 203b without damaging. Can you advise?

I do not recommend this at all. There is a VERY HIGH RISK of damaging internal components. If you want to tweak/modify/etc., just say no. The only thing you can do is keep it clean. If you're wanting to make it better, then I suggest investing in a new one.

How to rotate display when I rotate screen - SyncMaster 203B

You ought to be able to bring up the video card settings from your control panel and change it there. For instance I have a nVidia graphics card. When I bring up the settings panel it offers me the opportunity to change the rotation there.
