Question about Philips 60PP9202 60" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

1 Answer

I have a Phillips 60" Rear Projection TV and tonight the picture and sound went out and you could hear a "cherping" from the back of the TV. Any ideas what part may have gone out?

Was playing Call of Duty 4 On Xbox360 when right after a match, the TV went black and started "Chirping". I got down behind the TV and detected the smell of "Burnt Electronics". Obviously something fried but as to what, I have no idea. Also for a while now My screen has been very hazy/foggy. I saw a post on here saying that it was caused by contaminated fluid in the red and green bulbs and was repairable.

Possible shorted convergence amps or shorted horzontal output transistor. If taken to a shop could be fixed for about $250.

Turn the TV on and it just make a chirping sound no picture

Without examing the set. IN general as a techs when they hear chirping noise is an indication of what is know as a Bad Flyback transformer; You may possibly have a shorted Horizontal Output Transistor or both that will need replaceing.

TV MAKING A CHERPING OR CRICKET SOUND AFTER IT IS TURNED ON

Two main common failures for these sets is the convergence amps and the flyback transformer (which is rather expensive). Both can make the set "chirp".

Chirping means the power supply is being loaded down by a short in most cases, likely a bad convergance IC

Popping sound and picture goes out

Sounds like the flyback or the picture tube. Either items can cause this. If the pop comes from the rear right side its the flyback. If the sound comes from the lower front behind the speaker grille its the tube. Let me know what you discover as I have access to any of the parts you would need.
