Question about Evga nForce 680i SLI (122CKNF68) Motherboard

1 Answer

Can't get EVGA 680i mobo to see 2nd BFG 8800 GTS (640mb, not OC) The first card has worked great in PCIE slot 1 for almost 2 years. But when I bridge the 2nd identical card with SLI neither the current BIOS sees it, nor visible in Device Manager - Vista Ultimate (64bit) Am using a Q4 Intel with 8GB of OCZ RAM. It's possible the (used) card arrived DOA, but I have no reason to doubt the eBay seller - and would like to exhaust my testing before we do the whole return thing. Have tested the ? card in the first slot - seems DOA, but want to be sure.

flashed to current BIOS already, and have 750 Watt PCIE-ready PSU. 2nd card draws power (fan spins) but still BIOS says no SLI Memory available, and device manager shows only one BFG

  • johnklapak Dec 16, 2008

    oops 800 Watt PSU

  • johnklapak Dec 16, 2008

where in BIOS? i see red bar across bottom indicating "no SLI memory" or something to that effect

    yep plentyof power

  • johnklapak Dec 16, 2008

    but will triple check it

  • johnklapak Dec 16, 2008

I think there may be something with the memory - it's OCZ platinum - and I see they have an SLI-Ready line. :(

I thought that was jsut marketing hoo-ha. and I can't return it.

Anyone know if memory that isn't labeled SLI-ready can be used for SLI ? or how to trick my BIOS into recognizing it as such.

  • johnklapak Dec 18, 2008

Yeah, I Found that out when I posted to the OCZ boards. updated all
nvidia software again and Tried the ? card in slot 1 again, still bad.

will have to return it... :(

  • johnklapak Dec 18, 2008

well it worked fine all through this troubleshooting - but i only was testing it in the first pcie slot.

however, after taking the ? card out or the last time and putting mine back in - I keep getting error code 25 and no display. tonight i will try re-re-re-reseating my video, experimneting with the DIMMS in different slots, and trying a new PS2 keyboard.

  • johnklapak Dec 18, 2008

also his has a glossy label and a sticker that reads BIOS Version
Mine is a matte finish and my sticker reads "BIOS Version

otherwise identical cards, according to BFG's product sticker..BFGR88640GTSE.

in bios wher it lists the pcie card, on mine I needed to enable the 2nd card when I added it, PCIE settings, take another look under peripehrols, also check the irq's, it is definetlly a setting that is in need of change

No john ram is ram. Mine isn't for sli, and my SLI is working for over a year. The only thing is you want to run the same type in each channel. Ram as well as the video cards will default to the slowest speed component, but it would still work, thanks, Gym

I have one more thing to try, will your system function with just the new card in it, scince we know that the old card works, This will tell us weather it is a bad card or an incompatable card, just a thought, this way if that second card is just bad we will know it for sure. Thanks, Gym

Hi I have a supermicro x8sti Server Board inside

Basically you have two choices for installation of video card:
1. To purchase small form factor PCIe card suitable for installation on 1U server chasis or
2. Purchase PCI express riser card and to install most full-sized PCI Express cards (Check this link for PCI Riser )

Is this motherboard compatible with this gpu?

Yes you can use the gtx 650 since it is only a 128bit card but do check you psu you need a 6 pin pcie cable and more than a 400w psu to run good cards without problems.

Bfg 8600 GTS OC

While BFG used to have a good warranty, they went out of business in late 2010, which makes a replacement under warranty very unlikely.
If you have another PC you can install and test it in, I would try that. But it does rather sound like a graphics card problem to me. Which means a replacement will most likely be needed.
Luckily, you can get a very decent, if not better, card to replace it for less than $100. I would recommend anything in the Fermi graphics card, either 400 GTS or higher, which I have (with or without rebates) in the $100 range. PNY, Gigabyte, or XFX are all brands I have used, they have at least 3 years warranty on them.

My cousin recently upgraded his PNY video card, so he gave me his old one. It's a VDCARD, 8800, GTS 640MB PCIE. When I try and install it in my TA760G M2+ (Biostar) motherboard it makes a loud, cringing...

This Graphics card needs a system with at least a 450Watt power supply. As your cousin upgraded to a newer card, we can therefore assume that this card works and the problem lies with your computer. The power supply being the most obvious. I recommend a Cooler Mater Extreme Power Plus 460W or greater.
