Screen is black

My IBM Thinkpad boots up fine and then the screen goes black. The arrow is functional, and I can move around with the mouse. Any ideas?

When plugged in, my T30 screen goes blank every minute or so. Using the key combo "Fn+F7" will turn the screen back on. Running on battery seems to have eliminated problem.

Thinkpad 42 on startup screen is in a red pigment then goes to the blue welcome screen then goes completely black. On occasion may see my desktop for a moment.

This sounds like a display card (graphics card ) driver issue, or else the screen is going bad..

test that out by hooking up an external screen to the port on your laptop.. Then toggle using your function keys to use the external display..

If the external display allows you to see your desktop..

reload your graphics card driver, then boot up normally..

if the screen still doesnt work, you may need to replace it
