We were watching TV and it went out. After pushing the power button, the TV comes on, you can see a picture for a VERY brief second and then goes back off again. The power button blinks red 3 times. The TV is connected directly to an outlet.
Thank you.
We just had the tv fixed. It turned out to be two chips that needed to be replaced. Thanks for your input. We just had the tv fixed. It turned out to be two chips that needed to be replaced.

I don't remember the exact name for the chips, but they both had prongs sticking out of them. Cost was $300.I don't remember the exact name for the chips, but they both had prongs sticking out of them. Cost was $300.

That sounds like a power board problem if im not mistaken where your power cord plugs into the tv there is a board it connects to often times if u plug the tv in and it starts itself or turns its self off its the power board that needs to be replaced which btw is not cheap at all

The television is shutting itself off to protect itself. The blinking light is a code pattern. The specific code determines whether or not you need an LCD Controller Unit, Main Board, power supply or something else. You would need the service manual. There are parts distributors you can get it from and the parts as well. If soldering and tv repair is not something you are entirely familiar you may want to seek a tv repair person. The manufacturer's support may walk you through the service menus to complete a factory reset depending upon the symptoms.
Power supply board is dying not giving the tv correct voltage anymore. The power supply board, that the board power a/c cord plug into it.Tries websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy a refurbish power supply board for the replacement.
This sounds like a bad convergence board.
You didn't mention the model but I bet its a samsung rear projection HDTV.
If the convergence board fails, you can diagnose by pulling the power leads to the 3 convergence circuits, then power on the tv, if it lights (picture will have very bad convergence) then that is most likely the cause.
You can usually buy a new convergence board for about $80-$100. Look on eBay by the make and model of the TV.
And its real easy to replace.
