burnt thermo fuse or element. be sure to connect any wires tightly if you replace thermo fuse. test it with a mulimeter should show less than 1 ohm. no you do not need to add oil, if the unit leaks throw it out.

If the symptoms are as described, the heater probably has failed completely.

I do not have the manual to my fan forced heater (model HF-0034) and I am not sure how to work it. It keeps shutting off after a few seconds of heat. Then it will turn on again in 10 minutes and back off...

A lot of this, may be caused by the temperature setting and where the heater is placed. If the temperature is not set high enough, as opposed the ambient room temperature, it probably only turns ON briefly. Also, if the heater is placed near a heat source or in direct sun light, it's sensing the temperature from those sources, rather than the room air.

Try moving it to a another location and setting the temperature on the unit a bit higher.

Hope this helped you to solve the problem. Please let me know.

Pelonis HF-0034 turned off 10 sec after starting; won't restart

I've been through 4 or 5 of these (and similar models) with the same problem after anywhere from 3 months to 1 year of use. It appears to be an overheat condition. Unplugging for about 10 minutes resets the overheat protector, but it will overheat again after running a short time.

Sometimes you can extend the life by blowing out the heater with compressed air, especially around the electronics at the very top and the contact points at the top of the circular heating element.

I'm currently trying a Lasko 755320 from amazon.com -- cheaper, more features, better user interface, more heat, and it almost has to be more reliable than the pelonis.
