I cannot contact Vonage by phone since the only other phone I have is for local calls only - The adapter they gave me came from Illinois- not exactly a local call

You must have already a DSL router, a Vonage router and ofcourse the cables.
You must connect the Vonage router to the back of the DSL router to get the phone connection.. make sure that The Vonage router and the DSL router have all their lights on, that means that everything is working fine.

Hi doulas,

Vonage is a VoIP program - that's short for "Voice over Internet Protocol." It allows you to make phone calls using your high-speed internet connection. But this connection is not included with Vonage - you must already have an existing high speed internet connection from AT&T or another company. The Vonage adapter simply accesses that existing connection.

For your reference, Vonage's service requirements can be found at the following address:
http://www.vonage.com/support.php?subtopic=54&topic=4

If you've already left AT&T's internet service, then you'll need to establish new high-speed service before Vonage will work. Please let know if I can be of any further assistance.

Kind regards,
H2H

Did you delete the connection that you were using from ATT?Are you using a router? and if so is the connection to vonage coming through the router. I would delete the connections and start the setup disk from start. Also look in your network places just rt click on the icon and go to properties, you should see everything connected. You can also use the wizard in there to create a new connection, let me know how you make out, thanks, Gym

How to use VOIP Phone number in Philippines

US VOIP phone number can be used in the Philippines. For example, If you're Vonage subscriber (I used to), you can hook your phone adapter (basically a router pre-configured to work with Vonage) to your DSL/Cable modem.

You can make/receive phone calls to/from the US, depending on your subscription type. Usually, there are unlimited call plans. All you need is a high speed internet connection.

Internet connection problems

Sorry but that seems to be a pretty convoluted explanation. Here is how it should go.
Vonage unit connected to phone line(s) and cable modem. Linksys connected to Vonage box. Computers connected to Linksys.
Ethernet has a length limitation of about 300 feet before you need another switch (hub) or a repeater. Does your wire length exceed this?

Try adjusting the bandwidth saver to either medium or normal. After you adjust your settings, test and see if there is a difference in the audio quality.
