HI, maybe I can help, are you able to get into your desk top? I f so go to system restore, Start, Programs, System Tools, accessorys, restore
Take it back a couple of days to your last restore point, one where you remember that all was well. Try this first as it is the easiest, if you need further assistance, please let me know

acpi has to do with the power settings , if I remember my vista, and it does not support it, so I have to wonder why it's telling you that, ok can you get into the bios, restart and hit the delete key, then use the arrows to navigate to the BIOS power settings "you may have to look thru the bios screens to find this" then when you find it, set it to disable acpi. I'm thinking that this is what is happening. It is possibly in the "on position and we must change it, try this and get back to me. thanks

can you boot into safe mode by toggling f7 f8 on boot up prior to the boot up, if yo can get in that wy we can still do a restore.Or I can give yo some DOS commands to enter if we can get into safe mode. I don't want to give you a whole list of commands before you see if it will go into that mode. Pleasse hike the rating if I am helping you. that determines how we get compensated, I will help you alond as many times as necessary but need a higher rating or it works against me, thanks, Gym

During the boot process you can press alt+f10 to access the recovery manager.  Please be aware that this will erase all data on the hard drive and restore to factory default.

Sounds like the hard drive is not being recognized.  I would make sure it is installed properly.  Most likely it will need to be replaced.  You will have to order a set of recovery disks from Acer.

Aspire 1700 needs to be acpi compliant, to run windows 7 help needed

Advanced Configuration and Power Interface

(ACPI) specification provides an open standard for device configuration and power management by the operating system.

Windows 7 absolutely requires ACPI 2.0 for power management.
Your laptop only supports ACPI 1.0. Windows 7 will never load

I think Vista is the most advanced version you could install.
I really like XP as the speed is so much faster.

Keep Smiling :)

I keep getting this message: "Asus Eee PC ACPI

Quoting from a forum last year discussing how to get rid of your message... "ACPI stands for Advance Configuration and Power Interface, which basically means it lets the OS communicate with the BIOS. This covers things from properly reading battery capacity to hardware features like enabling the Fn keys on your keyboard to work. So it's needed if you want everything to work." Click on the following link to see the discussion thread...

The problem can be registry errors, incorrect ACPI drivers or both. You can try the suggested solution of reloading the Asus drivers but you may still get the message due to registry errors. Registry cleaning can by done by Advanced SystemCare Free which is a free utility that can be downloaded from CNet...

If all this fails and you can back-up any personal data that you might have on the netbook, a simple solution is on startup to tap F9 to reload the system with its factory-installed image that is on a hidden partition on the netbook's hard disk. I'm in the process of "downgrading" my Dell Inspiron 6400/e1505 from Vista to XP. Using nLite I have slipstreamed drivers downloaded from the Dell website and then created a bootable iso XP disk which...

Just boot from XP CD - pressing F12 should give you the option in Bios, allowing you to boot from CD when all is completed. Some PCs still need sata/scsi drivers loaded by pressing F6 in the install. If all fails read original manual that came with Dell 6400. If lost you should be able to download from dell support, using express service tag.
