HI, maybe I can help, are you able to get into your desk top? I f so go to system restore, Start, Programs, System Tools, accessorys, restore
Take it back a couple of days to your last restore point, one where you remember that all was well. Try this first as it is the easiest, if you need further assistance, please let me know

acpi has to do with the power settings , if I remember my vista, and it does not support it, so I have to wonder why it's telling you that, ok can you get into the bios, restart and hit the delete key, then use the arrows to navigate to the BIOS power settings "you may have to look thru the bios screens to find this" then when you find it, set it to disable acpi. I'm thinking that this is what is happening. It is possibly in the "on position and we must change it, try this and get back to me. thanks

can you boot into safe mode by toggling f7 f8 on boot up prior to the boot up, if yo can get in that wy we can still do a restore.Or I can give yo some DOS commands to enter if we can get into safe mode. I don't want to give you a whole list of commands before you see if it will go into that mode. Pleasse hike the rating if I am helping you. that determines how we get compensated, I will help you alond as many times as necessary but need a higher rating or it works against me, thanks, Gym

During the boot process you can press alt+f10 to access the recovery manager.  Please be aware that this will erase all data on the hard drive and restore to factory default.

Sounds like the hard drive is not being recognized.  I would make sure it is installed properly.  Most likely it will need to be replaced.  You will have to order a set of recovery disks from Acer.

best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Aspire 1700 needs to be acpi compliant, to run windows 7 help needed

Advanced Configuration and Power Interface

(ACPI) specification provides an open standard for device configuration and power management by the operating system.

Windows 7 absolutely requires ACPI 2.0 for power management.
Your laptop only supports ACPI 1.0. Windows 7 will never load

I think Vista is the most advanced version you could install.
I really like XP as the speed is so much faster.

Keep Smiling :)

''WMI Provider Host stopped working'' keeps popping up. Very annoying! No one can give a workable solution including Micro Soft.

Is that on Vista, XP, or other?
On Vista that may be a known issue and there is a fix available (ask for KB935553).

The problem has also arisen in conjunction with several third party programs; try temporarily disabling or terminating them one at a time and see whether you can pinpoint any one of them which might be responsible.

You might try disabling the WMI provider altogether, and check what services and applications are affected. To do so, run the "services.msc" utility and locate the WMI entry, then stop it. If it works and no ill effects are apparent, consider setting startup of WMI to "manual" or "disabled".

I am attemping to install SP2 for my Vista 32-bit

This article may be of some help. There is a command prompt command that will rebuild the WMI repository. It may fix your issue.

Wmi error comes and vista hangs

Event filter with query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage > 99" could not be reactivated in namespace "//./root/CIMV2" because of error 0x80041003. Events cannot be delivered through this filter until the problem is corrected.

Boot into safe mode. First, open services and stop the Windows Management Instrumentation Service. Take ownership of the folder or the contents of the folder "C:\Windows\System32\wbem\Repository." I've done this three times now on different installs and didn't have any issues after doing this, but I suggest you back up the folder to be certain. Delete the contents of the folder. Reboot. When you boot into Vistamag-glass_10x10.gif, you might notice a half dozen or so application errors...it's OK.
Reboot again, and Event ID 10 will be gone, along with the afore mentioned application errors.

Good luck, I'm not responsible for you hosing your system, & all that.

Problem on o/s installation

Look in your bios & see if you can disable the ACPI, (which you should be able too do. Finish installing your OS. Than update the OS. After completing all updates re-enter your bios & enable the ACPI. You should not get that error message after re-start.
Boards that support ACPI will get this error during a fresh install untill they get windows updated. All OS's
Post back if this did not help! It worked for me.
