Closed Caption on all time, sound is not muted

I can not turn off the Closed Caption on my set. I use the remote that we have for cable all the time. I tried to take it off with that one and even tried with the origanil remote that came with the TV. Help I am about ready to go and buy a new TV.

Here is the link to the user manual for your tv if you need it; http://www.p4c.philips.com/na4/2/20ms233s/20ms233s_dfu_aen.pdf page 19 suggests press status/exit on the original remote should do it, if not then see if you can find anything else in the manual. Hope this helps, please post again if not :)

How do i get caption only on mute

On newer Sony TVs you press the CC button to cycle through the available settings for Closed Captions (CC): On, Off, and On when
Muting.

However, it looks like your factory remote control lacks a CC button and your TV menu appears to have a simple Off/On option for what Sony calls Caption Vision. If that is the case then you would need to manually turn on Caption Vision when you mute the television. That hardly seems like the solution you're after.

If you had an aftermarket remote control that could record macros you might be able to program it so that when you press the mute button the TV would mute and also turn on Closed Captioning. This would require the proper remote control and some expertise.

Cannot get closed caption on

NOT sure of model of set so:

Closed captions can be either set in the set menu with the remote select it and then which version is used===in USA for example CC1 is the most common but your area may use another.

Also using a cable or sat set top box you will discover most of those also have the CC feature as well.

In either case the feature has to be selected and then version clicked and set to ON---other features are: CC may only come on if sound is muted or turned low===CC is either on all the time or off or on when sound is muted.

Close caption turns on and off by itself problem

Check the cable box to make sure the captions aren't truned on in the cable box.

If not -if it really is the Magnavox caption service- then -

This is assuming you have the original remote:
1 Press MENU to show the on-screen
menu.
2 Press VOL+ or VOL- until SET is highlighted.
3 Press CH+ or CH- repeatedly to
highlight CLOSED CAPTION.
4 Press VOL+ or VOL-
to display the
CLOSED CAPTION menu.
5 Press CH+ or CH- to select the
closed caption you want (OFF, CC-1,
CC-2, or CC-MUTE).
CC-MUTE sets
the TV to show closed captions when
you press MUTE. The TV volume will be
disabled until you press MUTE again to
restore the sound.
6 Press VOL+ or VOL-
to confirm your
selection.
7 Press TV/AV/EXIT to remove the
menu.

Closed caption on, but not working

do you have a cable box? is it a motarola box? is it HD box?
if the answer is yes to all of the above then leave the TV on and shut the power off on the cable box on the front of the box. then hit menu on the front of the box, an intrenal menu will come up. using the curser buttons (up/down) scroll to where it says "close caption : disable" use the curser buttons (left/ right) to highlight the disable the use the up/down curser to the "Enable" position now hit menu again then power to turn it back on.
you see close caption is not encoded thru Y, Pb, Pr cables nor is it thru HDMI and no set has decoding for closed caption thru this connection. so it has to be done thru the box.
