Like most Internet protocols, SIP is text based, and easy to read. The Pingtel hard and soft phones support a SIP logging function, which is easy, and can provide lots of clues about what might be going wrong. Within Tellme we have successfully used ethernet capture and display software tools to help debug connectivity problems. Ethereal is one such program, is freely available, and has versions for both Windows and Unix. Capturing SIP protocol traffic to/from port 5060 of your IP Phone should provide some clues about what is happening.
