Rf modulator not working

Should the light on the Phillips RF modulator be on if it is working?

Hi, I have the same problem.  I have a Phillips RF modulator hooked up to my Magnavox old tv set.  All the cables are correct (I hope): Coax Cable out to RF's ANT IN, TV coax cable out to RF's To TV, JVC DVD cables run from DVD out to RF's DVD IN.  When I plug in the modulator the light flashes but won't stay on.  I have the TV on channel 3 and the Modulator on channel 3.  I can tell it works for a second because the screen goes somewhat fuzzy for a moment, but it doesn't seem to be working at all.  Is it a bad Modulator?  I got it about a year and a half ago, but haven't used it at all since I bought it.  I hope I don't have to buy a new one, I'm a broke college student :(

Please tell me the exact problem what you having????

If at all you are getting "no disc" on your player its due to Disc compatible mean to say that Not supporting.
If at all there will be a Player Lens Problem.

My wii u stil wont work after being hooked to an rf modulator to an older tv

Hi Lisa can you provide some more information
What is the model number and make of the rf modulator?
what wii output did you use to go into the rf modulator ?
what frequency does the rf modulator output at ?
What model number and make is the television ?
What type of cable is being used from the rf modulator to the tv ?
Is it a video cable or a proper 75 ohm impedance coaxial cable
what is the impedance of the rf modulator output is it 75 omhs and what is the impedance of the tv is it 75 ohms or is it 300 ohms if it is 300 ohms on the television ( usually antenna is a ribbon cable screwed onto the back of the tv rather than a coaxial socket ) different you need a balun
http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=LT3022
I am recommending your first point of problem trouble shooting first is to check the impedance of your television compared to the impedance of the rf modulator and compared to the impedance of the cable used. IF they do not match then power is lost and the signal won't get to the TV.

RF Modulators and cable connections

RF MODULATOR HOOKUP
For a TV with only a RF input jack, a RF Modulator can be used to hookup DVD players, DVD recorders and other devices which output RCA composite video and audio. For example, analog cable TV can be connected using a RG-6 type coaxial cable to a VCR or older DVD recorder's analog cable ready tuner RF input. Then as shown above, the output can be connected to the TV thru the RF modulator. The modulator outputs on channel 3 or 4 for the older TV so the TV is set to channel 3 or 4. Some RF modulators are built-in to Audio/Video switch boxes. These allow multiple RCA inputs along with RF input.

RF MODULATOR CLOSE-UP
The modulator converts signals to channel 3 or 4 so older TVs can tune them on their analog tuners channel 3 or 4.

No RF out

Some VCR's have the ability to switch off the RF output. You should look under the tuning menu of the VCR.

My RF-modulator works when I use a short coaxial cable but will not work on longer runs. Why?

RF modulators are intended for short runs. There is too much signal loss for a long run

I have a rf modulator i dont no where any thing goes i tryed i just dont understand it i just brought a dvd and vhs to gether

alot of DVD/VHS combos have a built in RF modulator. Look for a coax (screw threads) output on the unit and it should be labeld either DVD/VHS OUT or just VHS OUT. If it does not have a combo out then you will need to use the seperate RF modulator.

Your combo unit should have a set of yellow red and white jacks that are labeled DVD & VHS OUT. Connect these yellow red and white to the yellow red and white on your RF modulator, then connect the coax (screw threads) out on the RF modulator to the coax jack on the back of your TV. There is also typically a swich for channel 3 or 4 on the RF Modulator, make sure you TV is on which ever channel you have that switch set to. If your RF modulator has a power light on it, it will usually not come on until your DVD/VHS is sending a signal through it and it is connected properly.

If you have an antenna or cable box, your RF moudulator should have an Antenna or Cable input jack on it that you can use.

What type of Inputs do you have on your TV. (ANT IN, S-Videio, RCA Video,RCA Audio)

If you only have a ANT In or RF Coaxial hook up you will need a RF Modulator

I am trying to install a phillips apapter RF modular to a televison. I have no idea whether to hook it up to the cable box or the TV. To be honest am not sure where the input cords go. Phillips SWS2326W/17

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, the video (yellow) and audio (red & white) OUTPUTs of the cable box should go to the Video/Audio INPUTs of the RF Modulator. Thereafter, the TV should be set to Channel 3 (or whatever it is the RF Mod is using). This is done if and only if the TV has no A/V INPUTs and/or the cable box has no RF OUTPUT.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.

dear woolifer ,
I am not an expert but i hope i can help you..
is it youmean digital cablebox?
if it is try this-

This is a problem a lot of people have with coaxial-only televisions because DVD players do not have coaxial (RF) outputs, which means they can't be connected directly into a television with only a coaxial (RF) input. The solution is to purchase a RF modulator, which is a small device that will convert the AV output from the DVD player to coaxial (RF).
As for the instructions, I am going to assume the DVD player is not a combo unit with the VCR, and that you want to record TV on your VCR. Step 4 will include connecting your DVD player, but if the DVD player is a combo unit with the VCR, just ignore step 4 part as DVD connection will be included in the VCR set up. Actually, you wouldn't need the RF modulator if it is a VCD/DVD combo unit.
  1. Connect the coaxial cable coming out from the wall to your digital cable box in the ‘video in’ slot. It might also be labeled ‘antenna in’ or ‘cable in’.
  2. From the cable box, connect a coaxial or composite (yellow video cable) and stereo (red-white) RCA audio cables to the VIDEO IN terminal on your VCR.
  3. From the VCR, you will have to connect this to the RF Modulator using a coaxial cable from the VIDEO OUT on the VCR to one of the IN ports on your RF modulator.
  4. You can now connect your DVD player to the RF Modulator by using the yellow-red-white composite/RCA cables from the VIDEO OUT on the DVD player to another port on the RF modulator.
  5. From the RF modulator, connect this unit to your TV by using a coaxial cable. It will be from the VIDEO OUT on the RF modulator to the VIDEO IN or CABLE or ANTENNA IN port on your television.
This should be all you need to get started watching your digital television. In simple terms here is what you did:
Coaxial from wall to cable box
Cable box to VCR
VCR to RF modulator
DVD player to RF Modulator
RF modulator to TV
You will only be able to record what is on channel

RF Modulator

The RF modulator changes the outputs from RCA (red, white, and yellow) to a Coaxial Cable (COAX).

You connect the DVD players RCA outputs to the RCA Inputs on the RF Modulator, then connect the COAX Output from the RF Modulator to the television.

Best of Luck.
