You set a Multimeter to read impedance (ohms) then put the two sensors of the Multimeter on the lamp contacts, if it reads infinite impedance, then lamp has blown.
There are several kind of LDP lamps , LED ones can be superficially tested with a multimeter, mercury vapour lamps and CRT cannot be tested with a multimeter.
All DLP lamps are normally not tested , but you know they are faulty using the TV diagnostic.

Unit has a bad optics block (light engine). Rebuilt engines available for around $350.00. I have seen this sympton several times and I am sure this is the problem.

It sounds like your looking for a CRT (red) the part # is on the CRT and could be puchased through any Zenith (LG) distributer- usually around $300- $500. Google the part # when you get it and you may find a used Picture Tube (CRT)for cheaper.

These are both CRT type TV's(3 picture tubes drive the image) with different screen sizes and the CRT's are not interchangeable

that is not how you test the bulb, it has mercury in it so u cant test it like that it has to be powered up.
