Question about GPS Devices

1 Answer

I bought a used Porsche with an Alpine IVA-W200 system already installed. The radio and CD player worked and I could hook up an MP3 player to a wire in the gloove compartment. The only problem was that the GPS navigation system was not responsive (static screen). After a guy at CarMax looked at it all day, it turned out that the handheld GPS unit (DP1 or something like that) needed a new battery. I drove the car for months without any problem. Now, I have the following problem: Nothing works. When I crank the car, the IVA unit in the car is OFF. I push ON and it does not respond. 4 minutes later, the screen lights up on its own as though it is on a radio station, but there is no sound. Volumne controls are non-responsive (no volumn up or down). The "Band" button does not change bands and the Power button does not turn the unit OFF. In fact, none of the buttons are responsive, but the unit beeps everytime I touch one. My suspicion is a low batter, but I just received a new replacement batter, charged it for 2 hours and tried it -- same results. Maybe I need a longer charge time or maybe it is something else. Any ideas?

The expert I chatted with was both right and wrong: correct in that the problem was not the small battery in the handheld GPS unit (which feeds signal to the IVA-W200), but was incorrect in guessing the problem was due to a fuse.

I took the fuse out, it looked good, and put the same fuse back in. After that, everything works! Apparently, the IVA-W200 can freeze up (like a computer sometimes freezes) and it needed a cold start reboot. Removing the fuse completely for a few seconds (for examination) took power to the IVA unit down and back up again... voila'!

How to get free unlock code for radio which model N0= sc-816

You need the VIN of the car the radio came in, and with that the dealership can get you the code.

I don't know if the dealership can look up the radio code by the serial number on the radio itself.

I HAVE A NEW PIONEER AVIC-710BT THE AM/FM WORKS FINE HOWEVER WHEN I INSERT A CD NO SOUND FROM THE SPEAKERS

chances are, you hooked up the wrong blue wire... the power antenna wire (blue) is hooked up to the amp turn on wire... so while the radio is on its sending the signal to the amp to play and when the cd player is on it shut off... swap the blue wires and everything should be dandy...

No sound from turn by turn navigation

I have an MRA-F350 decoder/amp, which needs a KCE-900E between the Nav and the Head to correctly route the audio.  Without it, you'll only hear directions when you're specifically tuned to the Nav input.

I looked at the manual for your processor, and it looks like it needs the same thing (pg 42 in PDF on Alpine's site)

Nav  >  KCE-900E  >  Head  (RGB)
KCE-900E  >  Processor  (RCA + Guide Control)
