"ON" rubber button on Model PR590 WX no longer responds
Extreme pressure on "ON-OFF"bubber Button worked for a while; later had to slide metal knife blade:between button and case cavity:wall; now nothing works. Never a problem pushing button from "ON TO OFF". Mate to set is getting very difficult to turn on just like the first but will respond with a lot of pressure like a key pushing into center of the rubber button.

model, manufacturer. There are so many radios that are built differently. Some you can put it back in, some you cannot. Most PTT made of rubber are part of a larger rubber piece and once torn, the whole thing must be replaced. Not hard, but it does require disassembly of the radio. That is, if the part is available. Business Band yes, FRS/GMRS no.
I realize this is a bit late, but I have to comment. When I viewed this page there were two responses to the original query (one that I also have). It is terribly painful to have had to read them because they are both so sincere in their desire to help and so clueless in their response. The original poster asked about replacement batteries for the Cobra PR385 2-way radio. Both respondents posted about a DIFFERENT model. The first I can understand the mixup, he posted about the PR3850wx, If you don't mind the extra 0wx at the end then it is all fine. The second posted about the LI 7200 wx??? What?? Please, we all want help, but check your information before you post your response. The Cobra PR385 radios use the FA_NICD battery pack at 4.8v and 300mAh. I did just find a source for batteries if anyone is in need:http://www.tomsawyer2wayradios.com/catalog/item/3823249/4705619.htm orhttp://www.emtcompany.com/cobra-fa-nicd-two-way-radio/fanicdx.html
I have not tried either of these shops but will be ordering shortly.
On the radio with the low volume, it is possible you are having a low receive (Rx) issue, or you have a bad volume potentiometer. It would need to be seen by a radio technician to determine the exact cause and if it can be repaired. In most cases, the flat rate repair for this style of radio is around $69 ea.
Your second radio with the transmit button (PTT) issue likely has a failing push-to-talk internal button, or a broken spacer behind the rubber plug. These would be common failure parts on this type of radio and replaced during a repair.
On most hand held 2 way radios you need to depress the weather button(wx,wtx, wrx) and either it will autoscan to the strongest signal or give you a new channel display you can scroll through untill you get one on air. Hope this helps.
This is an unfortunate situation. this normally happens when the radio CPU is damaged by water or some other factor. If this was a more expensive radio I would tell you to send it in to the factory but this type of radio is a low teer radio. Basicly a throw away.
