Open Question

Amana 90 furnace - 1 blink error code


Furnace has an error code of 1 blink. Amana 90 series 92% AFUE.

Will work if the thermostat is turned off then back on. After the room reaches temp the furnace shuts off like it's supposed to but then flashes an error code of 1 blink and will not restart on it's own. Please assist - can not find the manual.

Not much info to go on, but lets look at a few possibilities. Your thermostat could be turned to the ?Fan On? setting, make sure you put it in the ?Auto? mode. Or it could be bad, or there could be a short in the wiring. Open up the access panel on your furnace. Lets eliminate the thermostat from the equation by disconnecting the red, white and if you have a yellow wire at the furnace. Mark down which wire went where. The furnace will have a door safety switch that will have to be taped temporarily closed to test the furnace. With a short piece of wire (2-3" long), strip off 1/2 inch of the insulation on both ends. Secure one end on the R terminal where you removed the red wire from your thermostat. Take the other end and touch the G terminal on the same electrical board. Your fan will start. Don't worry about an electrical shock, the voltage is only 24 volts. Now with one end still attached to the R terminal, touch the W terminal where the white wire was attached. The furnace will now try to fire up. Hold it there until you see that it did start. If you did this and had success, I would say it was your thermostat or the wire going to it. Last resort would be a bad control board. If you want, you can do test your thermostat wiring by removing the thermostat from it's mounting plate. Put all wires back where they were on the furnace. Make sure the access door is back in place and secure. Take that same jumper and jump across the red and white wires on the mounting plate. Again the furnace should start up. Have a helper jiggle the thermostat wires where accessible when the furnace is running and see if it remains on or shuts off. If everything checks out, replace the thermostat. Good Luck!

A Make and Model number of the furnace not the thermostat will help but I can walk you thru the operation of a typical furnace. It sounds to me that the burners are igniting properly but the flame sensor is not sensing the flame and shutting down the system. You will need to find the sensor and clean it and check the wire from it to the control board. Typically, the flame sensor is found at one side or the other of the burner box. It is a small probe that the flame hits. Depending upon your model it may have a small wire attached to it leading back to the control. Or it may be part of your auto-pilot assembly. ? At any rate, you will need to get to it and very delicately brush it off. Then inspect the flame channel. This is a trough area where the flame travels to ignite all burners. Over time, they tend to fill with rust and debris. Take a small screwdriver and run the blade down the trough. Inspect the wire that goes from the flame sensor to the control board. Make sure it is not frayed or broken or shorting out and that the connection at the board is good.

Beyond that, it's time for a technician to come.

Turn off breaker. Turn it back on. If furnace is completely dead still, change your transformer. It's cheap..

On the thermostat if its a manual on then pop the cover off and look for a small dial with numbers on it. Take and move it tpoi a higher number than whats it is set at. Its called a heat anticipater and is supppose to make it so that the unit does not oveshoot or under shoot like what your experiencing. If its a digital oine then you are going to have to configure the setting in the insdtallers menu.

If the igniter turns orange and the gas fires for only a second or two then your heat sensor needs to be cleaned with sand cloth, if it does not turn orange then your igniter needs to be replaced.

What could cause carrier fault code 42 besides bad inducer


Could be several causes.
1. Blockage on piping
2. Water in inducer housing slowing down inducer impeller
3. Condensate trap for furnace clogged up.
4. Inducer motor going bad.
5. Leak in vacuum hoses or not connected.

Rheem classic 80 fan motor on furnace hums will not turn on


Have you checked the capacitor? Try spinning the blower wheel by hand, if this gets the motor going you have a bad capacitor. If not, the motor will need to be replaced.

I have an American Standard Freedom-80 Two stage furnace/AC. After replacing my old Honeywell with a new Honeywell RTH2310 thermostat (which the guy from A-1 Heating & A/C assured me was compatible...


The DS1 probably means dip switch 1. The light is used to give you different trouble codes. There should be something printed on the circuit board or on a label nearby that lets you know what each series of blinks means. I agree a good place to start would be to recheck the wiring then make sure you have the program in the thermostat right. It has several options.

I have an Amana Air Comand Gas furnace/AC, it's 4


Hi, If you are talking about an led light at the furnace, and it is blank, it should have a 3 to 5 amp fuse that plugs into the board. Pull it and check to see if the metal element is blown or burnt. If so, replace it. If you are talking about some other red light, please let me know. It sounds as though you have lost the 24 volt control voltage, so see if it has a fuse on the board. Keep me posted.

Furnace runs but won't ignite.


Error code 12 is blower on after power up. Meaning: after you turn on power to the furnace for aprox. 60-90 seconds the blower will run. The blower should then shut down and the furnace should go through the start up process, providing that the thermostat is set for and calling for heat. If the furnace fails to start after blower shut down there should be a new fault/error code. However if the blower continues to run longer then 90 seconds and continues with the same fault code more then likely the circuit board is bad. Carrier Weathermaker won't stay running


Is this a gas furnace if so is it high efficient if so is there an led light on the furnace blinking a code usually seen through a window at the furnace. is the thermostat battery operated if so is it a new battery and are the aif filters new. These would be my first steps to check hope this helps

Lets eliminate the thermostat from the equation by disconnecting the red, white and if you have a yellow wire at the furnace. Mark down which wire went where. Take the other end and touch the G terminal on the same electrical board. Your fan will start. Don't worry about an electrical shock, the voltage is only 24 volts. Now with one end still attached to the R terminal, touch the W terminal where the white wire was attached. The furnace will now try to fire up. Hold it there until you see that it did start. If you did this and had success, I would say it was your thermostat or the wire going to it. Last resort would be a bad control board. If you want, you can do test your thermostat wiring by removing the thermostat from it's mounting plate. Put all wires back where they were on the furnace. Make sure the access door is back in place and secure. Take that same jumper and jump across the red and white wires on the mounting plate. Again the furnace should start up. Have a helper jiggle the thermostat wires where accessible when the furnace is running and see if it remains on or shuts off. If everything checks out, replace the thermostat. Good Luck!
