I have an acer travelmate 4010. after using it for several months i was downloading some video this last week and received the dreaded "blue error screen" and now my bios doesn't recognize my hd. does this mean my hd crashed? and if so is there any way to retrievw the data that was on it?

Take the battery out, wait a few minutes, and put it back in. You may have just had a connection problem, also make sure you hit shut down, not sleep. Re-install the battery and reboot, let me know if that did the trick. Or we will go further.

Under advanced boot options boot from the one that suits your operatin system (XP or Vista or Windows 7). If it loads it means the bootmgr is corrupt, you can try to repair it with the Windows installation disc, instead of Install choose Repair.
Now, regarding the BIOS password, you will have to select Dos Boot CD and go to BIOS/CMOS menu and run Kill CMOS to wipe the BIOS completely or there are some utilities there that can reset just password. 1) Go to www.devicedoctor.com 2) Download and install the software 3) Once installed load the program and click on scan 4)Once it has finished scanning it will show you all the devices that need updating including the vga card 5) Download and install and your done
