Re: Connecting to Mac OS 10.4.3

The installtion disk would not work since the the installation disk is developed to work only in windows based computers, however, there are always alternate ways to configure routers. You can try using the user guide to configure the router manually. If you are unable to configure it, try the live assistance. all the best

I was given a dlink dir 625 router with no installation cd or manual. how can i set it up and make it secure?

Get the install wizard from, but here are the highlights of what needs to be set:

Wireless Router settings:

It is usually easiest to run the install wizard, which you can get from the manufacturers' website, usually for free, but be sure to be ready to set the items listed below:

To get access, start your browser, and put or, or other address for your unit, into the ADDRESS bar (not search box) of your Internet Browser. Every unit has unique access login and passwords, some are admin with no password, some are admin and access information from the website of the manufacturer of your unit. Look under support, downloads, drivers or similar sounding areas.

Things to set:

(Note: Routers are intended to be set by geeks. You have to SAVE EVERY page before you leave it, or the changes will be lost. A geek knows this (apparently). The router gives no protest...just dumps your changes. SAVE OFTEN.)

1. Login password (RECORD THIS!!). Consider taping to bottom of the router. Physical access is typically NOT the security issue.

2. Set a recognizable system ID (descriptive name is easier to find when you need to connect wirelessly).

3. Invoke wireless security of at least WEP.

a. Assign your own access code, 10 digit home or cell #. Consider taping this information to bottom of the router. (Physical access is usually not the security issue.)

4. Check that your router is set to broadcast its' presence.

5. Change the channel of the wireless to 11, and avoid conflict with landline cordless phones. (Big issue, even the neighbors can interrupt).

There are more secure settings available, all the way down to only allowing certain MAC addresses to have access. A MAC address is a digit unique to each and every network card. Like a fingerprint. Most users do not set mac address limits.

How to instal

You'll wanna check out:
Look for "installation"..
To help you set up your router and get on the Internet quickly, the Resource CD contains a Smart Wizard™ Installation Assistant. The Installation Assistant walks you through the steps required to connect your router, modem, and PC(s); configure your wireless settings; and enable wireless security for your network. When you have finished, you will be Internet ready!
You can set up your wireless router using one of two methods:
• Smart Wizard Setup: The Smart Wizard Installation Assistant setup is available on your Resource CD. See "Installing Your Router Using the Smart Wizard" on page 9 to use the Smart Wizard Installation Assistant.
- This is the easiest option. The wizard guides you through the setup process. It automates many of the steps and verifies that the steps have been successfully completed.
- Smart Wizard requires a PC running Microsoft Windows.
• Manual Setup: If you cannot or prefer not to use the Smart Wizard Installation Assistant, see "Manually Installing Your Router" on page 13. For example, if you are connecting to a Mac, are using a Linux operating system, or are technically knowledgeable, select this option. If you choose to use this option and install your router manually, for best results, install and set up your router in this order:
Failure to follow these guidelines can result in significant performance degradation or an inability to wirelessly connect to the Internet.
NETGEAR does not recommend or support adding a NETGEAR router behind another router, or replacing a gateway with a a NETGEAR router.
If you have a Macintosh or Linux system, you must use the manual installation method (see "Manually Installing Your Router" on page 13).Getting to Know Your Wireless Router 7
1. Install and connect your wireless router to your network (see "Connecting Your Wireless Router" on page 14).
2. Set up your wireless router for Internet access (see "Setting Up Your Router for Internet Access" on page 18).
3. Configure your wireless network and select wireless security settings to protect your wireless network (see "Configuring Your Wireless Network" on page 21)

I have a Belkin router. All of our PC's are working including my netbook. The only computer not working is my husbands MAC. Any solutions?

Check that the wireless adapter is correctly installed -- correct device-drivers loaded.

Check that the wireless adapter is not "disabled" (a slider switch?)

Try the wireless capabilities of the Mac at a "hot-spot" (Starbucks? Public Library?) to see if it can connect to *ANY* wireless network.

Run the Apple Software Updater, to ensure that OS X is properly updated.

Check that the Mac is connecting to the correct SSID, with the correct password/passphrase.

Got wgr614v9having trouble connecting my wii and my samsung bluray will connect for about 10 mins and then say my router disconnected internet on my pc seems fine though

try trouble shooting the device. If it still doesnt work let me know and we will discuss resetting the router. Please try the following troubleshooting: Are you using WEP or WPA security on your router? Log into the router using the default IP (consult your router's manual for assistance) Locate the "wireless security" section of your router settings and find the WEP or WPA key. If you are using 64-bit encryption, the WEP Key must be a 10-character key consisting of numbers or letters A through F. If you are using 128-bit encryption, the WEP Key must be a 26-character key consisting of numbers or letters A through F. The WEP Key must be a Hexadecimal (0-9, A-F, no other special characters or letters). If your router has multiple slots for a WEP Key, make sure the active key is the one in the #1 slot. If you are using WPA, the Wii console is compatible with the following types: WPA - PSK (TKIP) WPA - PSK (AES) WPA2 - PSK (AES)
If your WEP or WPA key is correct, then the problem might be related to MAC address filtering: From the router settings, locate the "MAC address filter" settings (also known as "access control", "access list", or "network filter" depending on your router model). If the Mac address filter is set to "enabled", then you must add the Wii's MAC address to the "allowed" list. You can locate the Wii's MAC address from the "console information" page (located under "Internet" in the Wii Settings). If the Mac address filter was disabled, then continue troubleshooting.

Check Nintendo's router info for special notes, if available, for your router. Click here to go to our Wireless Router lookup page. Use the drop-down box to select, if available, your router manufacturer. Click on your router's model number, if available. Read any "special notes" at the top of the router's page. Many issues can be solved by changing settings described in the "special notes."

Try a "Manual Setup" with the Wii console (how to), using your network's IP configuration settings. To access these settings: On your PC, click "Start" and then "Run." Type "CMD" into the field that appears to open a new window. Type "IPCONFIG/ALL" and press "Enter" to display a list of internet settings. Locate the settings asked for by the Wii console during the Manual Setup process and enter them.

Power cycle your router and modem by unplugging them both from the wall. Wait a few minutes, and plug the modem back in. Wait a couple of minutes for the modem to initialize, then turn on the router. Try to connect the Wii console online and test for proper response. if you require further assistance please let me know and i will be glad to assist you. -Midwest-tek

from there you may configure the router on what type of internet connection you have from you ISP, don't forget to save settings...

No Internet With New Router, Computer, or Adapter

This document is relevant if you had an Internet connection, but lost it when: * Adding a router to your network, or * Using a different Ethernet adapter card or computer than the one your ISP used during installation. Use ISP Configuration to see whether you need to "spoof a MAC address" to connect to your ISP. If so, follow the instructions in this document. If the Ethernet card that was used during ISP installation is not available, you may need to register the new Ethernet card's MAC address with your ISP for the following to work. MAC address stands for Media Access Control address (not "Macintosh computer"!), a unique number built into modems, routers and other network hardware. It ensures that one piece of equipment is not mistaken for another one. Some ISPs validate your connection by checking the MAC address of the Ethernet adapter in computer that was registered during ISP installation. If you add a router or change computer or Ethernet adapter, these ISPs will drop your Internet connection, because they find the MAC address of the newly added router or adapter, instead of the one they expect. To fix this, change the router to report the Ethernet adapter's MAC, instead of its own. This is called "spoofing the MAC address". To find a PC's or Macintosh's MAC address, see How to Find an Adapter's MAC address : To Spoof a MAC Address 1. Connect the computer that your ISP's installers used to establish Internet connection to the router. If you are unsure which computer was used, call your ISP, and ask what MAC address was registered. Then, using the instructions in the box below find the computer whose MAC address matches their records. 2. Disconnect other computers from the router. (If you do not want to disconnect other computers, you need to know the adapter's MAC address, as described in the box below. Then, in step 6, type Use This MAC Address, entering the adapter's address.) 3. In an Internet browser type the address 4. Type admin for the username, password for the password, and click OK. 5. Go to the Basic Settings > Router Mac Address. 6. Select Use Computer MAC Address. 7. Click Apply. This automatically gives the router the computer's MAC address. 8. Click Test to make sure you are connected. If you are not connected, contact your ISP.
