You don't give a lot to go on here. If your disk has failed, you will need to replace it. Are you sure the disk has failed? You may want to take a few steps to determine if the disk is really at fault, maybe something has happened to corrupt the boot sector and though the disk is fine, it cannot be read. There are restore utilities available on the internet to fix the boot sector of the corrupt drive. And you may even have such on the restore disk that came with the computer.

If you are talking about fixing it, forget that. You really cannot fix a hard drive if it fails. To get the old data off is almost impossible for anyone who isn't a pro. All you can do is to replace the hard drive, and from now on, back up your drive to an outside sourse, like a usb hard drive. Then if it should fail, you at least have your data

Computer comes on but will not boot up

There could be number of reasons, usually it could be a hardware failure. first check the monitor if its properly connected. check the fan for the processor it its working. If your hearing beeps surely there is a hardware failure, if its 2 short beeps then there's something wrong with the memory, turn of the computer and check if its properly connected. if the beep is a long one then that's the hardisk turn off the computer if the also properly connected. Another thing if your computer have graphics card try to remove that and connect the monitor to the motheboard's video port which is color blue.

i hope this helps. please rate my solution

I got my motherboard changed in October and my computer won't boot up "disk boot failure 0" could I have the same problem again? I don't have a disk - dell dimension C521

The motherboard is not the problem.
Your hardisk is the problem.
See if your hardisk is detected during boot up procedure.
If it does... Run again your Windows XP CD installer and repair your operating system.
Having "Disk Boot Failure" error means the boot system of you operating system is corrupted.
If your hardisk is not detected... you better check if the power supply connector on your hardisk is secured and not loose..
If still not detected.. your hardisk crashed and need to be replace.

Did not see second sata harddisk

To know if your Hardisk is detected follow this steps:

In Windows XP

1. Open Control Panel
2. Go to Administrative Tools
3. Open Computer Management
4. Double Click Storage
5. Open Disk Management

All the list of Hardisk is here, your hardisk is not formatted that's why, so you have to proceed to format just right click that unformatted hardisk and choose format, specify the label for your hardisk or simply leave it blank.

When i start my computer it says press f1 to

This means your hard drive has either failed or is disconnected.

Given the age of the computer it's most likely the drive has failed.

Let me know if there is important data saved on the computer. Otherwise, replace the drive and re-install windows and it should work again.
