Question about HP Compaq Presario V2000 Notebook

1 Answer

Compaq Hi Beni im having a bit of a problem with a Compaq V2417Ap laptop. Right after the Compaq Splash screen you will hear constant beeping like a keyboard error. Which may or may not continue up to booting to Windows. But if you hit ESC to select a boot option then select the HDD it will go through without beeping. ive done a hdd test etc. Now. ive also replaced the keyboard which tells me its not a keyboard error( Initially though so because the letters B and N dont work.)I know its not the OS because the problem happens right after the splash screen. Ive updated the BIOS as well. There is not much you can do in the BIOS as there arent much options such as turning off keyboard errors and such. Any ideas? By the way when i get to Windows everything is ok.

    Thanks for the response:

I ordered in megamall in a repair shop there.

I already tried the steps that you outlined. Note though that there was no addition to the laptop before this happened. Except the touch pad which i will try later.

Yeah come to think of it the touchpad has been giving me problems lately.

Hi Tom,

Nice of you to do a direct "Ask Me"

Initially, the model is one I am not familiar with. But, a Compaq is a Compaq and a laptop is a laptop. Based on your description:
an IRQ and/or a hardware problem.

You could try (temporarily): removing the battery and using the laptop on AC adapter/charger only; removing any or all of the add-on cards; switching/removing any of the memories; removing connector of built-in touchpad and/or removing FDD/CD.

On all of the above, I would suspect either the battery or the touchpad more.

Incidentally, may I inquire where locally were you able to acquire the keyboards. I have need for two (2), both for Compaq Presario 2100s.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.

Can't access bios; win vista won't load.

To get to the Bios you need to press the F2 button during the Fujitsu Splash screen.

If all you get is beeping, then it sounds like a bad keyboard on your laptop (could be a stuck key). If an external keyboard does the same thing. I would reset the cmos (unfortunately the laptops have their cmos sodered on, theres youtube videos on how to do it for laptops)

Compaq presario v6101uswont boot not even start up screen

When you plug in the power cord is there any lightswhatsoever on the laptop, where the plug goes in or on the AC Adapter of thepower cord?

When you press the power button do you hear fans running, hard drive spinning, lights on the computer, hear any beeps or lights constantly blinking, hear theDvD/CD drive click and the light on the drawer of the DvD/CD turn on for asecond or two? If so the laptop is trying to boot or may have booted, butthe screen is not showing for some reason.

Beep tones and blinking lights tells the technicians what is going on with thelaptop and why it is not booting. Most times it's a motherboard issuewhen you hear beeps or blinking lights continuous.

Maybe you have a Static Charge Buildup. Remove the Power Cord, Remove theBattery, then Press and Hold the power button for 30seconds. After 30 seconds plug the power cord back in (leave the batteryout) and hit the power button to see if it boots. If it does, you can putthe battery back in and let it charge.

I have a Compaq Cq60-104TU laptop with 2GB RAM and a 250GB hard disk. Windows XP service pack 3 is installed in it. Off late, whenever I turn on the laptop, I get this loud constant beeps. There are around...

Computers beeps are caused by the power supply, system board, graphics/video card or keyboard.
Reboot your system with out the keyboard if it no longer beeps your problem is a couple of stuck keys on the keyboard.
If the beeping continues remove your graphics card and reboot your system.
If your pc still beeps the it is either your power supply or the system board.

My compaq laptop will not power up, even when connected to a power source.

Hello and thank you for using Fixya's services.

I have a couple of questions and some troubleshooting tips for you:

Questions: Is the splash screen coming on at all? Any picture or text right when you boot up? What Windows are you running (Windows XP or Vista)? Are there any lights on when you boot up or beeps? If so how many beeps do you hear?

First troubleshooting: If it boots up and is at least showing the splash screen (Compaq splash screen or text) then it would be that the operating system is corrupt. This can be caused by several things included viruses, power surges or hardware failure.

The solution for this would be to take the hard drive out and slave it to another working desktop computer to retrieve your data. The attach the hard drive back on and reformat it (I can add specifics to doing this once I know the operating system).

Second troubleshooting: If you hear the operating system chime but do not see a picture and all the lights are on, then this would indicate that the back light on the screen is out. You can test this simply by hooking the laptop up to a monitor and see if you get a picture. If the computer screen shows on the monitor, then your back-light is out. If it doesn't show up then your video graphics card is out.

If the back light is out, it is easier to order a new screen (new or used) from eBay and just switch out (simple process and you can find a replacement for under 50 dollars on eBay). If it is the video graphics card, then you can also purchase one from eBay and switch out (a little tougher because you have to take the top of the laptop off). You can get assistance with this from the manufacturers website and pull specs for free.

Third troubleshooting: If you do not hear any beeps and the above solutions did not work. Then your motherboard has failed. This can be caused by surges or dust. You can purchase a replacement from eBay for a fraction of the cost and replace (this is tough and I am not sure if they have specs for this). You can do it yourself, just be sure and put everything back together as it was.

Fourth troubleshooting: To test the battery, take the battery out of the laptop and turn on with just the adaptor. If it boots, then the battery will need to be replaced. There is no way of testing the power adaptor but 85% of the time, this is the problem. Even if lights come on, the adaptor sometimes gets so overheated that it silently goes out but gives just enough power to make the lights come on. The power adaptor can be found on eBay for under 20 dollars and is cheap enough to replace (first) to make sure that is not the problem. The battery can also be found on eBay for under 60 dollars.

Please let me know if you have any questions and I will be glad to assist.

Problem with compaq presario r4000 constant beeping no keyboard

Need to know the number of beeps. They're called beep codes. This page lists some of the Compaq beep codes and what they mean.

I can't turn on my Compaq f500

So you don't hear any beeps and it just shuts off?

Most likely a faulty motherboard.
You could test this with a minipci post card
279b4ae.jpg
These are sold in ebay for quite cheap.

It would direct you to the problem.

But Id say its a motherboard / cpu problem if you don't hear any beeps.
