How do i test a thermal fuse?

Unplug the dryer. Remove the wires going to the fuse, you do not need to remove the fuse from the dryer. Use a continuity tester between the two terminals of the fuse. If there is continuity the fuse is good, if not, the fuse is bad, replace it.

How do I know if the fuse is bad in my dryer

It depends on what fuse you're talking about. They have 3 or 4 different fuses. The thermal fuse will prevent the dryer from turning on at all. The other fuses are for the heating element. Those fuses dont go bad that often.

Replaced thermal fuse in kitchenaid keys777 eqo dryer if started working then it has blown another thermal fuse .had a spare fuse .what could cause fuses to fail, thanks

There is a high limit and low limit switch also in the circuit. If either of these fail, it can blow the fuse. Also, if your heating element is shorting to ground, it will blow the thermal fuse. It is standard practice to replace the high and low limit switches with the thermal fuse.

Won't power on

There is no fuse box, all there is for fuse protection is the electric drive motor "thermal fuse" and it is located inside the dryer cabinet near the drive motor. If the fuse blew then you have a problem, find out what that is before putting another fuse in it, you can create a fire hazard.

Thermal Fuse

Item #2986 (OEM Part)
$10.70

Thermal fuse. If the dryer overheats, this device stops the flow of electricity to the heat source and/or the entire dryer. It is located on the blower housing and cannot be reset. The most common cause for overheating is a vent tube clogged with lint, a birds nest or other debris.

I would check the outlet as it sounds like one of the wires is off/shorted. Here is a website that may assist you, Good Luck Tim:

Gas dryer starts to tumble but it doesn't get hot and dry clothes

It's either a ignitor or the gas valve. Is this something that you could work on?

Dryer won't heat

i am sending you all the possibilities for your problem, check either of these causes ----and than let me know if it is solved----

Power from the house
Check to see whether there's power getting to the dryer. Is it plugged in? Check for blown fuses or tripped circuit breakers--your dryer uses two fuses or circuit breakers. The dryer could tumble but not heat if only one of the two fuses is blown. If you have circuit breakers, one of the two circuit breakers can trip, even if the two for the dryer are connected.

Heating element
Often a dryer heating element burns out, but doesn't trip the circuit breaker or blow a fuse. The heating element is simply a long coil of special wire. You can check it for continuity with an ohm meter. No continuity means the element is bad and you need to replace it--electric heating elements aren't repairable.

Thermal fuse
On many dryers, there's a thermal fuse mounted to the exhaust duct inside the back cover panel. The fuse--which is about an inch long--is usually embedded in black resin and mounted in a white plastic housing. If the fuse has blown, you need to replace it. (You can't re-set it.)

Wiring
A common problem is for the main wiring connection from the house, at the dryer, to burn and break its connection. Because the dryer can still tumble with partial power, the connection may be only partially defective. You may need to replace both the power cord to the dryer and the terminal block inside the dryer that the wire is attached to.
