HP A636 will not print yellow; tricolor cartridge is new

  • Align the print cartridge.
The printer automatically aligns the print cartridge after a new one is installed. You can also align the print cartridge at other times to ensure optimal print quality. Indications that you need to align the print cartridge manually include borderless prints with white space
along an edge, colors not printing satisfactorily, or poor print quality.

To align the print cartridge from the printer
  1. Load a sheet of HP Advanced Photo Paper in the input tray.
  2. Touch the Setup icon to display the Setup menu. For more information, see "Setup Menu" on page 16.
  3. Touch Cartridge.
  4. Touch Align Cartridge and follow the prompts.

Clean the print cartridge automatically.
If the printed pages are missing lines or dots or contain ink streaks, the print cartridge might be low on ink or need to be cleaned.
CAUTION: Clean the print cartridge only when necessary.
Unnecessary cleaning wastes ink and shortens the life of the cartridge.

  • Clean the cartridge.
Follow these steps to clean the cartridge automatically:
To clean the print cartridge from the printer,
  1. Touch the Setup icon to display the Setup menu. For more information, see "Setup Menu" on page 16.
  2. Touch Cartridge.
  3. Touch Clean Cartridge and follow the prompts.
If the documents are still missing lines or dots after cleaning, replace the print cartridge.

May be dry the ink or refill ink cartridge so , it could't properly ink out the nozzle. If possible u can batter manually clean the print head. Then try to it. Otherwise need to change the ink cartridge.

Why is my printer only printing color and not black ink while there is a black ink cartridge installed? When I looked at the printer after printing the alignment page, it said alignment problem but there...

This happened to me as well. Take your alignment page (or print another one) and put it in your scanner. The AIO printer will use the scanned alignment page to reconfigure your alignment.

Printer keeps saying alignment

Some all in one printers you have to print a sheet and then present it to the scanner.

Others you have to look at the sheet and decide if it is OK or you need to do a shift. You should refer to your user's manual.

Cartridge problem

Are you using a factory new ink cartridge?
Please consider the following:
If you are using a refilled or third party cartridge that may well be your problem. Most manufacturers build logic into their products to prevent the use of “Other Equipment Manufactured” cartridges as well as re-filled cartridges.
They do this to prevent problems from contaminated inks causing problems with print quality or damaging the physical printhead.
If you are using factory new cartridges, then please call the manufacturers Technical Support for assistance with the warranty on the cartridges

You can copy and paste any of these links in your internet address bar under a new tab to take you to your manual page.

You will need to realign the alignment, and print an alignment page. Or reset printer.

I keep getting this message when I try to align the print head. An error occurred during automatic print head alignment. Press the printer's RESUME button to clear the error. Refer to the user's guide to...

The print head is the carriage that holds the ink cartridges and has tiny nozzles on the bottom that spray the ink on your paper. The nozzles have to be aimed (aligned) either automatically, or in WinXP with the following manual process:

1 Left click on the start button
2 Open "Printers and faxes" on the Start menu.
3 Find your printer on the printer list and right click on it once.
4 Select "Properties" from the pop-up menu.
5 Click on the "Maintenance" tab at the top of the new window.

A selection page for all sorts of upkeep items is then shown. Manual alignment of the print head is one of the choices.
