I have a problem with the webcam.....it all the sudden didnt recognize it on the system........after restarting it a few times. IT now recognizes it but when i go to use it....just an avitar comes up. Any suggestions
Try to go to msconfig.. how to go to msconfig? click on start>on the right corner of your screen click run> then type msconfig then click on the services tab. now enable everything you might disable some program to load during startup and maybe your webcam functionality is one 'em. then reboot your computer.

u have to uninstall dell webcam centre restart system install dell webcam center u also get one cd dell webcam manager install & restart the system again.
Okay, the driver for the webcam (hal.dll) needs to be reinstalled.
Do the following:
Press the windows key and R Type in command In the command prompt that comes up: Type in cd C:\Windows\System32 Type in taskkill /f /im "hal.dll" Type in del hal.dll Then restart your computer
What taskkill does is kill the webcam application that is using the driver so you can delete it. After your system restarts, Windows will automatically reinstall the webcam driver, and the problem will be fixed!
Reinstall the software for the webcam. If you don't have it go to the site that manufactures your machine and look for the instalation files, or just type in the name of the webcam and model of the computer like this, need instalation files for a --- webcam in a ---- laptop, you will get a few thousand answers but your answer will be near the begining, ..or like this need webcam install for a ----- built in webcam, it should take no time at all, thaats how we find stuff many times, you can't keep millions of files handy but they are on the internet, good luck, Gym
hi there, i had the same problem back a few month ago. the solution for me was, i twisted the built-in camera 180 degree a few times, after that, i heard sound indicating my system found a new hardware and it started to install them, which in my case, the webcam ^_^ maybe the connection is the problem, mine is acer aspire 5580 laptop.. hope this help
reconnect webcam usb port, then restart your PC. then, attact usb port again, try to attach first at front usb port of your CPU, if stil doesnt work, attach your webcam at the back usb port of your CPU.
