Can't delete write-protected folder

I just got a Sony NWZ-E438F , firmware 1.00.
I can't delete, rename or do anything with the first folder that I recorded in my music folder. It comes a message that it's write protected, and I have no idea how to remove the write protection.
I don't use it with windows media player I am using the player only with my windows explorer.

I have had the same problem with a few files I transfered form my desktop.
The only way to remove the files was to backup what I wanted to save, and then format the memory.
from the HOME screen, goto settings, scroll down to format, chooses YES and YES and format will wipe out those write-protected files and folders.

Then reload player with the goods...

I have a used Sony Walkman NWZ-E438F and want to start from scratch. If I press the reset button in the back, will it delete the playlists and still keep the operating program?

Hi bkil105498,
Pressing the Reset Button will probably not delete the playlists and data, it will probably just restore the factory settings. To delete everything, go to Settings--> Common Settings--> then Format. In neither of these ways can the operating program be deleted, only the data and customizations.
Hope this helps.

Where is the download for the media player that goes with the walkman 8gb mp3 player. I think it was sonys Ver 1.2 media player it allows you to add music and movies and pictures as well. I cant find it...

The exact model Walkman mp3 player can be selected on this site:

When looking for the NWZ-E438F the support site comes up with
several downloads for this model player:

Media Manager for Walkman
Windows Media Player 11
Content transfer version 1.2
Content transfer version 1.3
Carefully read the overview/features and instructions.
Some players require firmware upgrading before installing
the content transfer software !

My Sony Walkman NWZ E438F is frozen and I just want to know if I hit the reset button will it erase all of my data?

No. The only thing it will erase is the time, but that's easy to fix. Reseting it shouldn't do anything to your music at all.

Want delete write protected songs

If they are on the unit then you will need to turn the write protection off on the unit itself. This usually can be done in the settings. If you dont have the manual visit and download it.

No album art displayed on certain albums.

I have the exact same problem with a 16GB (NWZ-S545) and using Windows Media Player 11. I've tried deleting the songs off the player, manually adding album art for the songs and putting them back on but it still will not display album art for certain albums. There is a folder on the walkman (My Computer\WALKMAN\Storage Media\Albums) that contains all of the album covers even some of the ones that do not display. I'm thinking that something goes wrong when you first transfer the music and then it never can be corrected. Possibly formatting the player and adding everything back in will fix the problem but that is something I want to avoid if at all possible. Let me know if you figure anything out. Thanks.

Can't delete pictures off sony mp3 NWZ-E438F

There do not seem to be any file handling options on the device itself. You have to connect it to your PC, go into Windows Explorer to access it and delete it from there.. well, at least that's what I do

No Videos!!

The Sony NWZ range can only play WMV (windows media video) files. All movies you download through iTunes are .Mov (quicktime) files so these are not compatible. There are some convertors that can translate between .mov and wmv but for movies you have downloaded through iTunes, this will not be possible I'm afraid because of the copy protection they have built in.

To transfer wmv files onto your walkman don't use iTunes but use the Windows Explorer itself. Just drag the files on to the Video folder of your device.

All the best
