Question about Canon DR-5020 Path-Through Scanner

2 Answers

DR-5020 I installed a new upper reading unit but am unable to adjust the brightness and when you OCR it lightens the copy. I contacted Canon and was told that something needs to be reset but they would not be spicific and to call a local tech. Any help on what to do would be appreciated. Joluby@comcast.net

You need to enter in service mode and set brightness, I see if I can find the procedure.

Canon dr 9080c

Clean the Upper Reading Unit Glass with a soft cloth and isopropyl alcohol.
You may need to clean the shading plates by opening the top cover all the way and holding down the green start key until the shading plates extend.
Clean these with a soft cloth and isopropyl alcohol also.
Do not bend or tear these.
The clear stop key will retract the chading plates.

Check if there is enough disk space in the comp target area. Run defrag and scandisk.

Lower reading unit broken?

Ensure you have selected Duplex option. Canon DR 9080C uses LED lights and hence the chances of failure of light source is fairly low. Try scanning in Color.
The scan module, if required, can be replaced and is available in the market between $600 to $750. Please ensure that the module is faulty before replacing. (the upper and lower modules are interchangeable, except for a few plastic parts)S. Mohan, Chennai, India

Hi! this is my problem: my scaned copies from canon dr-9080c are darks... i cleaned every thing, but it sill being dark...

Select Automatic brightness instead of manual. Alternatively you can select 'manual' and reduce the brightness till you you are comfortable with the quality of output.

Need the part number for the scanner led array? getting lines on scans not all led's are turning on and just need to order the new array. Its the upper array on the canon scanner dr 7580

MG1-3616 is the part number for the entire reading unit. I am not aware if only the LEDs are available separately. It is very unlikely that only some LEDs are working. Ensure glass is clean.

Can not install canon dr=5020 scanner/ installed scsi card then went to canon's site and downlaoded drivers for windows xp-computer asks to add hardward but does not find an "inf" file in the 6...

First ensure that the SCSI card is installed properly. Download DR 5020 drivers from http://software.canon-europe.com/products/0000672.asp and install them. Use CapturePerfect ver 2 or 3 to scan documents. With SCSI based scanners/devices, one should power-on SCSI device first before starting the Computer.

There is no power supply on my cannon scanner DR-5020. Do these scanners have a fuse and where is it located?

There is fuse, but in the Power supply board. Check if LEDs are blinking in the back PCB and on the right side. Do a basic check also, check if the power cable is good. many times we assume that is perfect, but not necessarily.

Canon Dr-5020 grabbing multiple pages

Wipe the rollers with a damp cloth thoroughly. Remove all the dust in the glass for a claen scan. The red color roller roller in the bottom needs thorough cleaning, rotate with hand gently (in power-off mode) and clean it thorughly. No solvents pls, except Isopropyl alcohol for cleaning
