Hi, on my Sony DCR-HC32 both the View finder & Screen (in record
mode) only show the brightest images(dimly), everything else is black
or gray. This just started a few days ago.

Playback from prior recordings works fine.

Is there a way to reset the camera, will this help?

    Thanks

Hi,

When it felt down, is it powered on? Is it running in recording mode? If yes, maybe a flat ribbon cable had been plugged out, causing a short circuit and blown one of onboard microfuse (4) due to contact on components board .

If the camera was powered off, the same thing happen but the fuse may be not blown if ribbon cable have not touch components on printed board. I suspect the ribbon cable come from optics.

Anyway, the best thing to do is to have the service manual in hand. I bought it on internet in PDF format. This model of camera is not so hard to disassemble. The service manual cost me 10$ USD.

Reply-me if you want.

Good Luck

Dropped it, now the recording is extremely dark. Playback&etc appear fine

Yes you can but it requires certain tools like CRO, so i would rather suggest you to take it to the service centre for best results.

Thankyou

There is connecting ribbon wire between LCD board and Camera main board and this ribbon wire is cracked and needs to be replaced.

Black screen won't record

If your Sony camera DCR-HC30 doesn't show live view to record and playback previous recordings good then its problem of bad CCD Imager and this part will be replaced.
Sony will repair your camera free of cost and you will pay shipping charges only. Click Sony CCD Support for details.
Thank you.

Sony DCR-HC32

Check the camera's menu, it may be set improperly. Beyond that, I'd get in touch with Sony (see their website first).

Problem with the lcd

Possibble cause can be the broken flat cable between LCD and Main board. Regards, Arpi
