Why is protect is flashing on display

There is a defect that is causing the light to come on. It could be a bad output transistor or some other defect that produces excessive heat. The cooling fan could be at fault too.

I may have already posted a solution for you from another location. But if not heres what I said.
If you also have voice messaging with your phone company, you might have voice messages stored with them. If so you need to access it with your password to clear them. To find out if you do have voice messaging, call your phone company and they can let you know and reset your password if so. The phone companys voice messaging system sends out a signal that would cause youe phone to think it still has a message waiting.

My receiver is flashing "protect" how do I reset it

The protect message indicates that a problem was detected at the final stage of the amplifier and the unit has been shutdown to prevent further damage.

If the unit continues to flash protect even with the speaker wires disconnected, then the problem is internal to the unit and it will require repair not just a reset. The typical reason for this is shorted output transistors. Expect a repair cost of $25-$45 for parts if it continues with the protect message.

Please keep us posted.

Protect led flashing with hit of bass

Try a bigger amp. This one wants to be turned down. But seriously the protect can act like sort of a clipping device when the unit is trying to amplify out of a certain range. The transistors may be getting weak and need to be replaced. That said I would move this amp to the midrange or the highs and get a little bigger amp for you low low's. Hope that helps.

It shows protect when it senses a problem with the output wires shorted or some internal fault. Try disconnecting all the speaker wires and power up again. If it still shows protect, then the fault is internal.

As soon as i turn on my STR-SE391 reciver the protection is on

It is unlikely that the pushing of buttons caused the problem. The protect flashing means that a problem was detected and the system has shutdown to prevent further damage. The most common cause of this is a failure of the output transistors. Plan on a parts cost between $20-$40 for this repair.

No reset will help this. The problem is an internal short most likely in in one of the amp circuits. This is a relatively simple repair for a service shop. Expect a parts cost in the $40 range. Add in the local labor rate for the total repair cost.
