Question about Beltronics Pro RX65 Radar Detector

No audio Unit is 1 1/2 to 2 years old. Has worked flawlessly and last Friday the audio has quit. I have reset the volume control countless times and reset every switch/bullon. The visual signal is working fine, dimmer works fine, the display of radar is also working, just "no beep beep Ka band"

    I have the same problem. Everything seems to work fine EXCEPT there is no sound or audio of any kind. Seemed to go silent all at once (overnight).

    Unit was calling for calibration periodically, then it lost all audio...

    I had the same problem. What I did was plug in a set of headphones in the headphone jack and the external audio then started working. Kinda strange but it worked.

    I called Bel yesterday and am returning my unit. It is a flat $59.95 rapair which includes recalibration and tuning. Hopefully, it includes the new speaker. This appears to be a growing problem from on this unit...

Hi everyone,

Bel/Escort now uses a special and proprietary "high temp" speaker which resolves issues of speakers blowing due to high ambient temperatures or heat which builds up within the speaker when it is alerting for extended periods of time. If your RX65 is in warranty and you can make a photocopy of your sales receipt, then great! All you have to pay is shipping to Bel. Bell will replace the speaker with the new version, flash your RX65 with whatever the latest firmware is, and calibrate and test your RX65 too. So, all of this is peachy if your RX65 is under warranty.

If your RX65 is out-of-warranty or if it doesn't have a serial number or was bought from a non-authorized dealer, then the service charge as I recall is $80. Thats not bad since your RD will come back working like brand new.

A note about the speakers: They are made by PUI, but the speakers are proprietary to Bel/Escort. Thus you can not buy them from any source -- not even direct from PUI.

If the volume control is turned up and the unit doesn't have any audio when alarming, it sounds like you may need a new speaker. Call Whistler at 800-531-0004 and they will set you up.

I have a whistler pro 78 radar detector and for some reason the audio is distorted. It has been mounted on the windscreen all the time (didnt get wet, nor was it hit). I assume it either has a shortage or...


Its possibly a bad speaker. If the unit is under 3 years old, send it back to whistler to get it repaired under warranty. You can contact them at www.whistlergroup.com or info@whistlergroup.com

if its over 3 years old, a good chance its just the speaker and you can order a speaker from whistler for $10 and repair it yourself.3eulcg

Everything lights up and is working,but i have no sound


Do you accidentally have it muted? The Mute button, located on PASSPORT's top panel and SmartCord. Have you turned up the volume on it? Volume Control (VOL) To increase or decrease the audio volume, press and hold the (+) or (-) volume control buttons located on the top case. A sample alert tone will be generated, along with a corresponding bar-graph on the display. Once you have reached your desired volume level, simply release the button. This level will be stored in memory. In Preferences Auto Volume is the default. This feature will increase the audio alert level automatically when the ambient noise in the vehicle is high. I have a whistler 1660 radar detector. It worked fine for 2 years, then I noticed when I turned the volume up or down it would "skip" and mute itself until I had to wiggle the volume wheel...


The volume control is not a common "off the shelf" part and it may not be found in electronic part stores. Have you tried moving the volume control rapidly high and low? Something this will "clean" the contacts in the control.

Speaker quit/ no noise


Sorry, have to ask, is the volume control turned up? A lot of times the volume control can get hit and lower the volume. If this is not the case and you ro someone you know can solder, contact Whistler to purchase a replacement speaker.

The volume quit working


I take it that you have no volume or audio at all coming from your STi, and that you have pressed the volume button to try to cycle up and down through the volume settings? If so, first lets try doing a factory reset which will resolve any corrupted memory settings. To do this, first power off your STi using its power button. With it powered off, hold down the volume and sensitivity buttons and while holding these two buttons down, press the power button. Release all three buttons as soon as "RESET" is displayed. After RESET was displayed, your STi should go through its normal startup sequence, with audio beeps and braps. If you here nothing, then your STi has a blown speaker and you will have to contact Beltronics to arrange for them to replace the bad speaker.

Model 1733 doesn't have feature memory and thus doesn't have a factory reset. Is the volume turned up?
