Question about Epson Stylus CX6400 All-In-One InkJet Printer

2 Answers

I have a cx6400 epson printer, when I turned it on the gold belt inside made a noise as it turned. I got an error message to call a service rep. Is this something I can replace myself, or do I need to take it in.

Hi, My Epson CX6400 makes a dreadful noise whilst trying to stack the ink cartridges on startup. It began making this noise (and telling me to call a repair man) at the end of each print run, now it won't start up at all. When I try to change an ink cartridge, the cartridge holder moves past it's normal docking point and when I turn the printer on, the cartridge holder whizzes all the way over and slams into the side of the printer. I think the timing or sensors must be faulty but my supplier says to ditch the printer. Can you help, please?

Solved my own problem by cleaning up the Linear Scale using vodka. This is the thin strip behind the ink carrier, above the gold toothed belt. Persevere, as the ink dries quite hard, but treat it gently. My condemned printer now works a treat.

If you mean the rubber belt with teeth on it, first check it's still attached at both ends. If it can't move your head along its slider, it will be because the head is in the locked position.

There will be a little plastic release bar in front of the print head which is locked on the right hand side of your printer. Gentle push the release bar and you should be able to pull the print head away from its locked position.

When you turn on the printer, the head will move and reset itself, hopefully without locking this time.

If it continues to lock then the whole assembly on the right hand side of your printer has lifted slightly.

With the printer turned off and the head slid to the left (see above) put your hand onto the locking/cleaning assembly and press down and it should pop back into its seat.

Turn on the printer and it should reset.

If its the gold/copper looking sensor marker strip behind the print head you are talking about, this is held in position by sprung hooks at each end and the strip is simply hooked over protruding hooks. Attach one end then stretch slightly (compressing the spring) to attach the other. The head uses this to position itself when printing and it is a precise and essential piece of equipment. So be careful with it.

I hope any of this helped.

Do you have any other indicators such as flashing lights or similar?

My guess is that it MIGHT be a "service required" error meaning the waste pads are full in which case this guide may help..

There's a reset sequence you can follow near the end of the article which I'd try... If that solves it then you'll need to deal with the waste pads.. If not, you'll know it's something else and can report back..

I have a error on my epson cx6400 and don't

Hi,

the best way to solve the problem is to replace the printheads or
Turn the printer on and pull the plug when it starts its initialization process. Can you move the carriage by hand at this point? If not, sounds like you may have a carriage motor\belt issue.

or clear the error message.

Thanks,

I assume you've checked and done all the basic things like a power down and power up reset and checked to make sure all the ink cartdridges are properly installed and seated.

The user manual discusses your error message and suggests you do the following: Open the scanner unit to make sure any tape securing the ink cartridge holder has been removed; close the scanner unit/ press the ON button to turn off the CX6400, then turn it back on . If the error message still appears, contact your epson dealer or Epson tech support. If so,then you may want to get direct support and information from Epson at this website : http://er.epson.com:8001/start?TM=false&CMD=iSearch&CB=1886098358&LG=1&TP=NoviceCase&Q1-1-1886170412=1886170410&FI=1&firstQuestionID=Q1-1-1886170412&firstAnswerID=1886170410&category=allinone&model=cx64__&displaymodel=Epson+Stylus+CX6400&referralmodel=Stylus-CX6400&restart=yes
