Looks like your optical sensor is gone. And considering the price of the PDV-722 replacing the optical unit is not an option. By the other hand I have a burned slave monitor and I would be happy to buy yours to complete my set, which is reading DVD's very well.
Anyhow, I've seen similar cases having to deal with DVD and CD players. Unfortunately I believe the laser in your DVD player is or has become faulty and unable to read anything. You could try a CD/DVD cleaner.
Sounds like the LCD screen has gone faulty, often the flexi connection on these things give up which would result in the same problem, I presume it has a hinged lid with the screen in the lid? If so unless you can change the screen or your willing to pay someone else to do it for you, I suspect its fairly fatal.
the effect ot moisture due to humidity.this may cause this .two possibilities keep the unit ON for some hours it will automatically get perfect.or the other that the circuit internally has gone short so its showing this problem.if short it needs reparing.

I have seen this problem before this is caused by a failure of the backlight which provides illumination for the LCD screen. You may also want to check the inverter also since it fails often and interacts with the backlight.
