I'm not an expert on Vista, but generally it should work, as Vista comes with drivers for generic CD/DVD drives.
*(though installing the Samsung drivers may be a good idea if they have Vista approved ones on their site)

Installing DVD drives is one of the easiest things to do in terms of computer building, but I would be very careful if you've never opened the case before now.

All you need to do is turn the PC off, unplug it, then open the case. Find the molex power connectors (they're rectangular and have four pins, should be all over the place if your power supply is anything like mine) and the IDE data cable, which is flat and should be in your mobo, probably attached to a harddrive already. The IDE cable is pretty wide and has a plastic end usually in the middle and the end of the cable, either will work to plug the drive into.

It's self explanitory from there on out. The four pin power socket on the drive goes with the molex connector, and the long, flat data socket goes with the IDE cable connector.
*(the IDE cable has a small spur on one side, and the drive should have a void on one side, top or bottom of the socket, these match up so you don't put the connector in upside down. If it wont fit the first time, try switching top and bottom on the connector.)

The drive should insert from the front most likely, and the case may be cluttered or tight, so you would want to push the drive in half way or so and then connect it before pushing it in all the way. Then screw the drive in place.

Hope this helps, please rate if it did. Thanks.

What cable do I need to hook up a Samsung dvd writer sh-s182 to my Akai dps16 with scsi?

I suppose you would need a SCSI cable with the correct number of pins that match your scsi ports. Some have 50 pins some have 80 pins and some have less than 50 pins. Count your pins and go from there. Have you ever done this procedure before? Did it work?

All optical drives use ATAPI drivers, these drivers are native to Windows. Physically install the DVD player and it will be recognised, depending on what type of CD and DVD burning software you have your drive may not be recognised by them.
OEM burning software will only work with the optical drive it was supplied with, retail burning software should work with any drive.

SH-S182 installation

before anything else.. your computer must not be plugged in
have some screw drivers ready

open the case
remove the connections of your old cd/dvd-rom
remove the screws
remove the drive from the bay

replace it with your new dvd writer
replace the connections and the screws
put everything else back
then turn on your system :D
