WD elements 500gig external drive. Worked fine since purchase but power supply has now failed. this drive was my main backup and contains sensitive data. PC World cannot obtain a new power supply but will exchange the drive under warranty. I cannot exchange unless I wipe the drive. Is there anywhere in the UK I can obtain a part?

-   My two most recent WD external drives (a 320Gb and a 640Gb) have both done this during the warranty period. One AC adapter failed after 10 months, the next one after 6 months. I think they're using crappy capacitors in them or something. The drives and enclosures themselves are fine.

-   I bought 3 off and 1 started slowing failing by reporting format errors, but changing power supply fixes it...didn't last 3 months and yes I will be taking it back under warranty-   Guest

-   I have the same deal , I ahve over 320Gb of business data scanned contracts etc and now the power AC adapter has failed and here I sit, big problem. The electrical engineering firms wont even make a cable for me to just get the data off of the drive - as you can imagine this data is worth much more than the drive itself. They have offered me a replacement drive but cant get the info off for me...what help is that? -   Guest

Happened to me too. The pins on the power supply break easily. Search the ac adapter model number. should be DA-30C01 or something. can find it for sale on the net somewhere under model name.

Hi John,

Had the same problem with a WD Elements 320 GB drive, and found a WD customer service number. They are sending me a FREE replacement. I have put the details on a message somewhere on this site, but can't direct you to it.

The number from Australia is : 1800 429 861 ( routed to Singapore )

Email Address : Western Digital Customer Service . CustomerService@wdc.com

Send them details of your mailing address, drive model and serial number, and a description of your power supply. ( my power supply had a model number moulded on the back )

Hope this helps

Mine went also, on the 20 Jan. Same as you, all business software and I forgot to back up the data - lesson learned I hope.
I ordered a new drive from Maplins and it came this morning, just the power supply gone, all my info is now recovered and backed up.
