Yes dave they could be faulty. have you checked the bios for a memory speed setting or auto setting maybe.while in the bios also try resetting to set-up/default setting and let it recognize everything.return memory asap for replacement if none of this works.RICHARDM69.Was this solution helpful? You may have tried to put too much memory (RAM) onto it.
That models maximum spec is:

I tried to upgrade the memory from 1 GB to 2 GB, but after that the computer's screen won't turn on, and i can hear three long beeps and two short ones

The beeps indicate memory issue.

Acer Aspire One Notebook supports upto 1.5GB of memory, so if you try to install 2GB it will not work.

Size 1.0 GB / 1.5 GB (max)
Technology DDR2 SDRAM - 533.0 MHz
Form Factor SO DIMM 200-pin

You can also Click Here to check the specs on the Cnet website.

I have an emachine T5026. Emachine tech swears this machine only supports pc2700 ram but the stickers on the factory installed ram says pc3200 256mb x 2 so i bought 2 memory masters pc3200 1gb x 2 sticks....

PC3200 is backwards compatible with PC2700. Meaning you can install PC3200 into your motherboard but it won't run any faster than would PC2700, however it will not cause any harm and should work fine.

Emachine's would say you need PC2700 most likely because they're trying to sell you some.

One of your new memory modules or the memory slots on your computer may be defective. I recommend installing a single stick of memory and booting your system. If it is successful then shut it down, disconnect the power and install another stick. Boot again and keep doing so and by process of elimination identify the bad memory stick or the bad memory slot.

This is the "likely" cause and isn't too uncommon.

Good luck.

I just installed RAM into my dell inspirion 6000 and had the caps lock and mum lock lights flash then the computer shuts off. I read the manual and I did install the RAM properly (removing the battery...

Please provide everything on the sticker of the memory. When you bought the RAM, was it a pair or did you buy individual sticks? Your system can only support a maximum of 2 GB of PC5300 DDR2 RAM, split over two 1 GB sticks of RAM per slot. If you have tried exceeding this, it will not work, and even if it were to, it would eventually cause irreparable damage to your system.

Good Luck,

Just need to know how to insert a new memory stick I bought for my dinosaur 3000. Fry's salesman said I could find a step-by-step instruction. THX!

Dinosaur, as in a old acer aspire 3000 or what?

Most likely two screws on the bottom of the laptop that hold the memory cover closed, inside you will find 1-2 memory modules, you may have to remove one of the old ones and then install the new one, or if one is free install the new one there.

Add Memory

it depends, you will want to check the type of memory first, and make sure you are purchasing the correct type. Also, if you have memory slots that are different colors, you will want to put the memory in two similar colors. also, i would advise buying a set of 2 1gb sticks of ram that are dual-channel capable, and removing the old memory. Otherwise the old stick of memory will significantly slow down the speed the new stick can run at. Memory is extremely cheap at newegg.com, you can get 2gb ddr2 ram for under $30.

Dell 8400 new memory

If you are using Windows XP, go into your control panel, double click System (from classic view), and look towards the bottom where it says "Processor x.xx GHz, x.xx GB of RAM" and make sure your 2.00 GB of RAM is recognized by Windows. Next I would make sure you are using 400- or 533-MHz DDR2 unbuffered SDRAM. If you are, try removing one of the two modules and see if the computer runs smoothly. If it does, I would install a different brand of memory.

Ram Memory

I did this 2 days ago on my gf's aspire 5315-2153 (walmart special $348). the underside panel has four tiny screws which must be removed and then the fun begins. The plastic panel is large and doesn't want to be removed. After 20 minutes of cursing, i was able to get it out with two hands and a small screwdriver. The plastic panel has about 7-8 tabs which also hold it in place. The original two memory modules must be removed and the two new ones installed in their place. i bought crucial memory from newegg.com (CT2KIT12864AC667) for $17 delivered (took a week to get) which was much cheaper than buying it direct from crucial.com Save the old memory modules just in case you have a problem with the new ones. After putting them in, I restarted the computer and it booted up fine. No BIOS changes or any of that were necessary. So for $17 and about 30 minutes, this lappy is now running strong with 2gb instead of 1gb. Initial impression is that it boots up faster and shuts down faster but that is about it in terms of improvement!!!

Added a memory stick to my Dell 2400 Desktop computer and the monitor, mouse, & keyboard won't work

Hi

The supported Memory types for Dimension 2400 Series is PC2100 (266-MHz) or PC2700 (333-MHz) DDR SDRAM (non-ECC). Supported Memory capacities are 128, 256, or 512MB and a Max if 1GB (1024MB).

The first obvious question is does the new 512MB Memory module meet the above specification? Some Memory modules are able to steep down speed.

If it does, then first ensure the new memory module is properly installed. Take ESD (ElectroStatic Discharge) precautions or you may damage the new memory module and/or the system board.

To proceed compare the system beeps and diagnostics lights color and sequence to the Advanced Troubleshooting guide.

It is possible that the new memory is DOA (Dead On Arrival). Or there is a new fault on the system. If you have access to another compatible system, you may test the new and old memory modules. You may also swap the new and old memory modules to determine if the memory slot is at fault.

Lastly, if you remove the new memory module, does the system complete POST (Power On Self Test)?. If it does you may indeed have a DOA or incompatible part.

I know I have a driver issue but how can I solve it???? I just installed a new motherboard asus a7n8x vm 400 I installed windows XP Sp1 but when I got done I could not get a internet connection so I upgraded to Windows 7 and still got the same problem but with a new issue. The first Issue I was having was the computer would not log online. Under the Network and sharing center I?m getting an unidentified network message keeping my system from obtaining a valid IP address. For some reason it?s stuck on public network and will not let me change it to home. I tried all of the basic trouble shooting first by turning on network discovery then I checked my network cable; reset my modem and router, and rebooted my computer. After cycling everything and still no internet connection I tried to manual assign a IP address. next I tried to go online using a different computer to find a updated driver and transfer them via flash drive with no luck just the windows is using the best driver message. I tried installing Driver Detective put when I try to launch the program it shuts down because it don?t have a internet connection. The second problem I?m having is a unknown device in device manager. When I check the device properties under general and location it say that its on my PCI standard ISA bridge. I do have a vt6421a IDE/SATA raid card in stalled in 1 of the 3 slots but when I uninstalled the device and shut down the computer and physically removed the card and rebooted the same thing popped back up. Updating the driver didn?t work I tried to go to the manufactures websites to get all driver updates with no luck. So what do you recommend?
