Question about Gateway 4540GZ Notebook

1 Answer

No sound I have a Gateway Notebook 4540gz which originally came with Windows XP. I upgraded to Windows Vista and I have no sound. The device manager says I have an Intel sound control and that its working properly. The volume Icon show that it is suppose to work. Is it possible I need to upgrade the audio driver to be compatible with Vista. If so, does anyone have any ideas. I tried Gateway already and nothing works. And, yes, I tried the mute button.

My gatewaylt2802u i cant find its webcam

Open the Device Manager, Imaging Devices, is it there? Scan for hardware changes. Open Windows Updates, install all updates. Search Gateway website, select your OS 32 or 64bit: Download driver for webcam. You may have to use the Vista driver. Change compatibility to win 7. What was the OS originally?

No sound on gateway laptop mx8738 after changing to xp

You'll have to update (downdate since XP is older than Vista, lol) the audio drivers for XP, the ones for Vista apparently are compatable.

download, save to desktop, unpack the file then go to start, then go to the device manager.
You can open Device Manager by double-clicking on the System icon in Control Panel, choosing the Hardware tab, and clicking Device Manager.

Locate the audio driver (it should have a yellow symbol next to it which indicates a problem with the device or driver) right click on the audio driver that needs updating, choose update driver, update the driver automatically, if it doesn't find the driver you downloaded then locate driver manually and point it to the location on your desktop where the driver is located. This should solve your problem.

No sound driver working on my gateway notebook pc

Did you check the Device Manager, the audio driver, has it a yellow ? against it or is it OK and enabled? If it is has the MUTE button been ticked?
If it has a yellow ? against the audio driver then the correct audio driver was not installed. Go to the Gateway Support/download page to download the correct XP driver for your model laptop's audio device and install it.
If the sound still doesn't work check Device Manager to see if the driver was installed and working.

I have a Gateway MX3215. The wireless connection won't read my Linxsys router but if I hard wire it to my computer it works. I originally had XP and upgraded it to Vista. The wireless connection was...

You should check for updated drivers for the wireless NIC device. Gateway may have them available, but no guarantees. Did you do a compatibility check befiore installing Vista? It would have shown you what if any devices, and software were not compatible with vista before install. Try get as much info about the wireless device you can, and do a web search for known issues and solutions also. You may find others have had the same problem and a workaround.

First off, you don't sound dumb, nobody is born computer literate. It's one thing to learn how to use computers, it's another when it comes to loading or working on them. Don't worry about it reading upgrade from 98 or 2000, Vista wasn't around when they packaged these, and Vista to XP is fine. I use XP Pro, I find that it's better than XP Home for my needs. Pro or Home will work fine for you, don't get the XP basic, the Home and Pro have better features. Also, you just need to purchase A Windows XP disc, and not a disc from Gateway or Gateway disc. Windows XP is sold at Walmart, Bestbuy, or Circuit City. After the install you will need to go to Gateway's support site and download any drivers that you need, I'll list the link for it bellow. You can find which drivers you need in the device manager, the devices with yellow question marks need drivers. If you have any problems with any of this get back to me. Thanks for the compliment on the pic, most people don't get it, especially the younger crowd on here.
