check and make sure the radiator is full of antifreeze take off the radiator cap and top off the radiator then take your hand and cover the hole where the cap goes and squeeze the top radiator hose a few times to help it go down that way if there is a air pocket somewhere it will help push it out when you thank your done top off again and replace the cap and try
I own a DeVille. Check your large hoses to see if they are warm when the caddi is warmed up. Do you have blowing air from your fan? If not, check the fuses and swap relays under the hood with each other to see if it a relay. You may have a bad blower motor, but check the relays and fuses first. If all those check out good, replace thermostat for warm heating. This will not effect the cold heating. Last and very important. Are you losing antifreeze? If you are, you may have a blown head gasket. 4.1Ltr engines are known for this seeing that most people do not change their antifreeze often enough. Good luck. email me at tvandenhoy@hotmail with your diagnostic results.
It sounds to me like you are possibly describing a low coolant condition caused by a leaking heater core. If you can smell the antifreeze, there is a leak. You just have not checked good enough.
could be low on antifreeze, or if antifreeze is too weak it can freeze up and you wont get any warm antifreeze through the heater core, if its blowing sort of warm but not hot it could be thermostat, and maybe even the hot cold switch is not working
The heater core can be stopped up or thier might not be enought coolant in the system as it has to be full for the heater to heat. The engine also has to warm up so if the therromstate were opening too much and the engine does'nt warm up the water will be too cold and the heat won't work. Remove the heater hoses at the motor conections and blow them though If they are Ok they'll blow though real easy. The cars cooling system does'nt blow very hard and is stopped up real easy. Blowing though with a garden hose reconnect and refill with antifreeze and your good to go. If it does'nt have enough antifrezze it could be frozen and the ice won't cicculate. If this has happened you may need to put the car in a garage to warm it up drain the light antifreeze coolant and put in good coolant withthe right amount of antifreeze.
Do you have enough antifreeze in radiator and over flow botttle?
Is your car leaking antifreeze?
Are the radiator hoses warm?
If you answer yes to all 3 you may have air in your cooling sytem, a bad thermostat, or a clogged heater core. I can help you figure this out if you give me more info
