Question about Kenmore 15516 Mechanical Sewing Machine
I am trying to wind the bobbin but when I pull out the clutch *sears kenmore sewing machine model no. 385.19502" it doesn't disengage - the needle continues to go up and down and the bobbin does not wind. I have taken off the side and the belt appears to be fine. any suggestions?
May be one of two problems.
1st you should be able to turn the nob about 90-120 degrees. Not a full turn.
If this is not the case follow these steps.
Turn the small screw on the nob about 2 full turns
Carefully turn the nob all the way off.
Inside there is a round part with 3 small prongs on it.
spin that 180 degree and put everything back together.
2nd your clutch is gummed up
You will need to remove the handwheel and motor belt for this.
Remove the nob, small 3 prong part, and motor belt.
Pull the handwheel off (it may be stuck on and hard to get off).
Clean inside the handwheel and the machine main shaft.
Lubricate the Main shaft and put handwheel back on.
When you put the small 3 prong part back on it needs to have the prongs sticking away from the machine.
Hope this fixes your machine

On some of these machines when the bobbin winder is on it stops the rest of the machine from working. Push the bobbin winder mechanism to the left and see if your machine will work.
