Question about Western Digital My Book Office Edition 1TB External USB 2.0 Hard Drive

Hitachi external hard drive USB 2.0 1TB

I dropped the external hard drive accidentally. Not a big drop. After that, it doesn't work. When you switch it on, it makes a different sound (like a little bip bip bip).

It doesn't mount, although the frontal light remains open.

I would pay through paypal for a quick sollution.

The bip bip sounds means broken hard drive heads or motor, recovering the data is over $500.

When this happens the heads or the motor had broken, after a shock you get a broken hard drive head usually.

This is normally considered beyond repair, to fix it all you can do is fitting a new hard drive inside the hard disk usb enclosure.

If you want to recover the data you will need to pay a big amount.

The data recovery on an hard drive with mechanic fault must be done using a facility called class 100 Clean room, the service is never below $500, and often is over $100. I paied $900 for the last one I commissioned.

If you have no backup and your drive is damaged, that is it, no data.
Plug the usb in with your drive, leave your computer looking for the drive. If windows, it may take some time. If Mac it won't be long. If neither can see it, the TOC is damaged and it will need a computer engineer to try and recover the drive.

Computer won't recognize external hard drive anymore Hitachi lifestudio

Try connecting the external hard drive to another computer to recover/backup your data.
When you have such a large capacity hard drive, it pays to have a second large capacity hard drive to backup your data in the event of the other hard drive dying.Hard drives do fail especially if you accidently drop it.

Try to open the casing and disconnect the mobile harddisk inside from the connector. Then put it back firmly. Make sure nothing is loosen. If it still does not read, just plug the harddisk to a different enclosure to be able to retrieve the data

Hi, yesterday my hitachi external hard drive is fallen to the floor and after that it is doesn't work. but the lights are working. i want know can i take my old data from hard disk and can it...

Dropping hard drives is a sure way of damaging the drive. There is no way us mortals can repair a damaged hard drive that has been dropped.
Retrieving data fromdamaged hard disk is possible. There are companies that can remove the diskplatters from the damaged hard drive and with special equipment may beable to recover your data, but it will cost you an arm and a leg for theirservices. The reason for this high cost, they dismantle and remove the plattersin the hard drive in a clean room environment and set up the platters up injig/drive to retrieve/copy the data.

Lacie by stark external hard drive is suddenly not recognised by my computer (always worked until now) and has a permanent red light. Tried all usb ports and restarting computer. Whats wrong?

have you dropped it? it could be any number of disc errors, two of the most common errors are caused by viruses and dropping. try putting the hard drive in the freezer for a day or so in a moisture and static resistant bag. just a possibly remedy, if that doesn't work, try removing the casing on the hd and setting it as a secondary drive after you plug it inside a desktop computer.

That clicking sounds if ever loud enough is one annoying symptoms of failed disc. When it accidentally drop the reader may come off the disc. It sad to say but you may consider to change your hard disc.

Toshiba external hard drive 1TB USB 2.0

Hello,

I talked to the customer service of the brand. They know what's related to the noise the HD does right now: real damage. The best thing to do is to switch it off and bring it to a professional data recovery place, which is what I will do next week.

Thank you anyway for your help. I don't need further assistance on this issue.

Cheers,
