Our fax machine says recieve error and will not recieve faxes

I presume the machine has its own telephone line. Lift the handset and make a telephone call. Can they hear you ok? Can you hear them OK? If both ok then have them ring the fax and you answer it with the handset. Can they hear you ok? Can you hear them ok? or can you hear crackle on the line or any other strange high frequency noises? If you hear these noises then your telephone company will need to clean the line. Thats usually why this problem arises. the SF5100 was Samsungs best fax in my opionion. It did not suffer from any problems except wear and tear like all machines.

How can I get the telephone on my Brother Fax T96 to work?

Step by step information at the link below.
Brother Fax T96
The F/T Mode is used to allow the fax machine and the telephones to share the same telephone line. When a call comes in, the fax machine and all extension telephones on that line will ring according to the number of rings you have set for the Ring Delay.
When the Ring Delay is completed, the fax machine will answer the call and determine if it is a fax call or a telephone (voice) call.
The fax machine can determine this by the signal it is receiving on the telephone line. If someone is sending a fax automatically , the sending fax machine will transmit a fax tone (a series of beeps every 3 seconds).
If your fax machine hears these tones, it will receive the fax.

If the fax machine does not hear any fax tones, it assumes it is a telephone (voice) call and will begin ringing the F/T ring tones (double ring) for the length of time you selected for the F/T Ring Time. These tones will only ring on the fax machine's handset (extension or external phones will not ring). At the end of the F/T ring time the fax machine will go into the receive mode in order to receive a manual fax.
(If the call was a voice call and was not answered, the caller will hear the fax receive tones also).
  • If you answer the call before the fax machine(during the ring delay period) and determine it is a fax, you can transfer the fax to the fax machine for receiving.

  • If you answer the call on an "extension" phone and hear a beep every 3 seconds (automatic fax) or silence (manual fax), press *51 or *91 for New Zealand (remote activation code) on the telephone keypad, wait to hear the fax machine turn on (chirping sounds) and then hang up.

  • If you answer on the handset of the fax machine and hear a beep every 3 seconds or silence, press the Fax Start or Start/Copy key on the control panel of the fax machine and then hang up the handset.

  • If you answer a call on an "extension" phone during the F/T Ring Time, you will hear the F/T ring tones.
To release the call from the fax machine, press #51 or #91 for New Zealand (remote deactivation code) on the telephone keypad and you can speak to the calling party.

  • If you pick up the handset of the fax machine during the F/T ring time, you may talk to the calling party immediately.

Hi!

On most machines with a handset you will see that there is a volume slide on the left side on the handset and can be adjusted there!

Hope you get it sorted!

I have a fax Brother 827S

Check the connection from the handset to the fax machine and the switch hook.. You could just have a bad handset.

The machine will not send faxs nor receive them. it will make copies and the time and date works.

Betty, make sure that you can hear the on line signal when you lift the handset. If you can, try sending a fax using the manual method. If you can't hear a signal, unplug the machine from the telephone line and plug another telephone in it's place. If you still can't hear the line, there is a problem that needs the telephone line repaired. If you can hear the line, then either the line cord is not plugged into the correct jack on the machine, or there is something wrong with the machine itself or the line cord even.

Sending a fax

First make sure that the fax button has been pushed and is llit...

The 2820 should have a handset. In order to use manual transmission (when you get to hear all the beeps and whistles) you will need to load the document then pick up the handset. then dial the number, when you hear the recieving fax tone then hit the start button.

The 2820 should also have a hook hold button pressing this will allow you to hear the dial tone and the numbers you dial along with the receiving fax tone. If you dont hear anything when you press this button then you may want to use the volume buttons to increase the volume.

Also remember that if you have not picked up the handset or pressed he hook/hold button the unit will use automatic mode, which is to say that all you will do is load the document, dial the number, and then press the start button.
