Question about Western Digital My Book Office Edition 1TB External USB 2.0 Hard Drive

1 Answer

Toshiba external hard drive 1TB USB 2.0

I dropped the external hard drive accidentally. Not a big drop. After that, it doesn't work. When you switch it on, it makes a different sound (like a little bip bip bip).

It doesn't mount, although the frontal light remains open.

I would pay through paypal for a quick sollution.

Hello,

I talked to the customer service of the brand. They know what's related to the noise the HD does right now: real damage. The best thing to do is to switch it off and bring it to a professional data recovery place, which is what I will do next week.

Thank you anyway for your help. I don't need further assistance on this issue.

Cheers,

How to recover data from a broken Western Digital My Book Essential

Remove the HDD inside the case,If the HDD inside is working, remove data with a usb to IDE/SATA Adapter. If the HDD is damaged, which is likely, It ,most likely, can be read, but I don't think you are going to like the bill for that service.

I accidentally plugged in my 19v toshiba laptop adapter to my 16v 1tb external hard drive it started up but then i plugged it out soon is it possible that the hard drive will work or is it dead, if no

The electronics in the hard drive is damaged and cannot be repaired by us mortals.
There are companies that can recover data from damaged hard drives BUT it will cost you an arm and a leg for their services.

My iomega external hard drive just beeps when ever i turn it on. How can I fix this?

ummm, i fixed my problem i had with a iomega 500gb external hard drive, it was beeping at me also, so what i did was i knocked it on its side, switched it off, by its own panel, then switched it back on, it came back into life and was recognised again!!

so try it with yours!

I think what what happens is, when you accidentally drop it, or knock it from time time(accidentally), the needle inside the hard drive goes out of place, and the hard drive will beep, or something to that effect. knocking the case itself again, might fix the problem, or maybe not, thats if the hard drive itself is more severely/inherentally faulty.

I accidentally kicked my 1tb buffalo external hard disk and it fell the usb connection has been remove and when i connect it again the hard disk start to beep and the computer doesnt recognize and detect...

First try a different usb cable. The cable or the cable connectors may have been damaged as a result of the fall.
If that doesn't work and you are certain that your PC does not recognize the drive, then It appears to me that the fall damaged the delicate mechanical devices inside the drive and you will have to replace it.

Hard drives cannot withstand rough handling. If a hard drive is only dropped about 1 or 2 feet and it lands on a soft surface such as a carpet it MAY survive the fall. But if one falls from a higher elevation, (say 6 feet) onto a hard surfaced floor, it's almost a sure bet that the drive's internal mechanisms are permanently damaged.

To find out for sure, take it to a PC technician and have it tested. It should only cost you a few dollars.

Hi am james i have an external hard drive that drop and have refuse to dislay on my computer. please what can i do.

If that external hdd is still under warranty bring it back to the store and ask for a repakcement but do not tell then that you dropped it. Most of the times these hdds have 1 yr warranty from the reseller and 2 yr warranty from the manufacturer.

How do I use my simpletech external hard drive. I

I have a 500GB and a 1TB. Both drives if they work at all, is because you have to apply the power after usb is connected. The 500MB still good but the 1TB took a big dump.
