Question about Computer Monitors

1 Answer

My screen will not power up. If I disconnect the current, wait a few seconds then re-connect - the standby light will go on. As soon as I try to turn on the computer - the standby light turns to green, a small white flicker then to black and can not be turned on again. Same problem if I try to enter only the screen diagnostics. If I start in standby mode and hold the power button on the screen - it will begin to power up then shut down completetly with no chance to go back to standby other than power disconnect.

yes - tried to connect to my laptop - does not work - also as stand alone - the screen just seems to have only a few seconds of power.

Hi rj05
I'm sorry to have to say this but you will have to take the monitor in to a repair shop. There is a definate hardware failure inside the monitor.

There is probably a conflicting setting in your power management options. My recommendation is that you check the monitor setting in Windows and see how you have it set up. In Windows it is under CONTROL PANEL>POWER OPTIONS. There are a few differences between WINDOWS 7 and XP from here on out, but in general, do not select a scheme and do not select any hibernate, standby, or sleep modes. If you stick with a simple power saving option, like "TURN OFF MONITOR: After 15 mins." you should not have any further problems.

Many of the Windows "green schemes" will not work right with different combinations of BIOS, Hard drive, motherboard, and monitor. It is best to avoid them, unless you are very patient and willing to go the trial and error route. Good Luck!

Hi,

Depending on the make and model of TV, there's sometimes a menu option to set the display. This is often only accessible via the remote control - somewhere!!!

Waiting for your reply..

Power button is on (blue) but no display. If you

Try to change the screen resolution and frequency setting of your graphic card.
1. Restart your PC
2. Before getting into splash screen, press F8 frequently
Choose enable VGA mode by pressing up arrow and press Enter, wait until finish loading. Now the display looks bigger, change the screen resolution to best fit to your Monitor (normally 1360X800). DO NOT CLICK OK>go to advance tab> Monitor tab, choose 60Hz for screen refresh rate, NOW you may KLIK OK

The monitor displays the screen then goes black. For example, I turn of the monitor off and then back on. I will see the screen for 1/2 second then it will go black.

Hi sglick - you will need to do a few simple trouble shooting steps to pinpoint the problem, as this can be cause by several different things.
Follow these steps and reply back with your findings: 1. Unplug the monitor power cable, wait about 30 seconds, reconnect the cable and then turn on the monitor. This resets the electronics on the monitor. 2. Make sure the monitor has power - the light on the monitor is on. If the light on the monitor is off, the monitor does not have power. Connect it to a different power outlet. 3. If the monitor has a detachable video cable, obtain a second monitor cable for testing purposes in case the cable is bad. 4. Disconnect all connected devices except the mouse, keyboard and monitor. This includes thumb drives and camera-type memory cards from card reader slots. With the devices disconnected, restart the computer. If the computer starts and the monitor now displays a picture, a device is preventing the computer from starting or sending a proper video signal to the monitor. Update the BIOS to resolve this issue.
If doing all of this doesn't change your issue of no video after seeing it pop on, try the monitor on a different computer/laptop, and if you have one, a different monitor on the system with the problem.
Let us know what you find following these steps and we can figure out what to do next. -Trev

they normally turn off like this when they aren't receiving a video signal from the pc (same as when you turn off the pc). make sure that it is connected properly, and that the video output is activated. try disconnecting from the other monitor while its on and connect the problem monitor...if it still isn't working then there may be a problem with the cable or the monitor itself. Try another VGA or DVI cable. Hope this helps
